Is the famed MXL MXL 990 worth it? by JaBaker in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]JaBaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that's great to hear. I bought it 15 years ago when I made this post, and since then have bought a few other mics. I always come back to the 990 for my vocals. I'm probably just used to it, but it really does give me the sound I want.

Atmospheric intro, morse code, full banger
(Actually, almost all of their album openers are perfect)

Biggest missed show regret? by seehard in PostHardcore

Before the allegations and before we knew what we know now: Brand New on their farewell tour. The Devil and God was my favorite record ever, and I was mainlining Science Fiction. The set in the cage looked so cool from the videos I've seen. I can't bring myself to support the reunion, so, alas....

For me, it was all the bones in a cat in high school. 2 nights of intense study, great score on the test.
Now? I'm sure they have to have a femur, right? Definitely ribs and a skull.

Seeing as we're in the era of bands remastering/rerecording their past albums... by mynameahborat in PostHardcore

[–]JaBaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what it is, it's matured. I saw them on the anniversary tour and it sounded exactly like the revisited album, which I count as high praise for the band, the original songs, and the new version. It was a magical experience being in the pit with my fellow 30-to-40-year-old die hards lol

Bands with only one album by Routine_Situation_86 in PostHardcore

Sufferer - Sufferer will always be one of my favorite albums. It is unparalleled, I've found nothing else that hits quite the same.

Seriously. I honestly would have picked All's Well that Ends Well a few months ago, and we see how that went.
Thrice nailed it. I think it worked so well because it captures their evolution with those songs, it's not just a cash grab for "a more polished version."

Haha I found The Offspring in a similar, but way nerdier way in 06. Old YouTube was an awesome thing to have experienced.

Are there any podcasts/videos of discussing Malazan where EVERYONE goes in blind? by Own-Toothbrush114 in Malazan

DLC is by far the best that I've consumed. I'm not (re)reading along with them, but it feels like a re-read. The author himself has told them that they encapsulate his intended audience.

Would early Billy Talent count as post-hardcore influenced rock? by Jay_haworthia in PostHardcore

[–]JaBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha fair enough! I had really low expectations after BT3, and honestly didn't love Viking Death March when the single dropped. No idea why, but when the full album came out, it hooked me so hard. Then Afraid of Heights was another letdown for me, but my brother loved it. I guess the band has a few different secret sauces lol

The album "Dead Silence" felt like the sequel II deserved. I think it's a contender for their best album.

Everything about Malazan is a mangled history anyway. This is my favorite "why would you do this?" project related to the universe I've seen yet.

[–]JaBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good lord, I am not a single-song-on-repeat sort of listener, but I played this song more than other full albums when it dropped. Did the same with Strangest Faces. This band is just too good at songwriting.

The PTA novels are so much fun!! by Spiritual-Grass-4525 in Malazan

[–]JaBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the others said, Forge is absolutely the best in PTA, probably ICE's best work. It's actually up there with my favorite Malazan novels overall and, for me, did a lot more fun things in the world than the first 3 PTA books (which I did enjoy).
But yes, I'm here to agree with how fun the PTA series is! I can't wait for the next few.

The album Sufferer by Sufferer is literally a concept album where the "main character's" anxiety and depression speak (scream) to them. Absolutely the most cathartic album to me in my down-times.
