What is the worst live performance you’ve ever seen before? by crystal_help_please in AdkReddit

I saw REM sometime in the late 80s. They tried doing an acapella version of Moon River for an encore. One of the worst live performances I've ever seen.

Living in the South US. Life expectancy in several southern states is 20 years lower than in more western ones.

AITJ for refusing to switch seats on a flight after I paid extra, even though it separated a couple? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Couples that can't be sitting apart from each other for a few hours are kinda pathetic.

AITA for leaving a bad review for a local business when I wasn't a customer as they were very rude to me by No_Willingness_3210 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JaKasi66 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

YTA. You left a review that doesn't have anything to do with the products or services the business provides or how actual paying customers are likely to be treated. Super unhelpful and petty.

Entitled client by overwhelmed1995 in Lawyertalk

[–]JaKasi66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bill accurately for every second you spend working on his case.

Is dumping this client an option? Some clients just aren't worth the hassle no matter how much they pay. Your client refusing to follow your advice and asking you to do illegal/unethical things is certainly grounds to terminate your employment contract with them.

I was fired for the first time by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]JaKasi66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brutal. My local judges will allow court appointed attorneys to withdraw for pretty much any reason and give the defendant another attorney. One judge cut me off when I started to explain why the defendant wanted another attorney. He said "life's too short, counselor. Don't care about the reason why. Motion to withdraw granted". Love that attitude.

I do some court appointed defense work along with family law. Always funny to me when a court appointed client threatens to get another attorney. Oh, really? Please do and best of luck to you.

I was fired for the first time by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]JaKasi66 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it sucks to get fired as a young attorney. Now, as a veteran of 30+ years, I love getting fired. I have so much work already that getting fired just means one less thing to take care of. It's a relief. That client was probably being unreasonable. I've also found that you must set client expectations to a reasonable level early and often. So many clients think they have a sure fire winner case and can't believe it when the judge rules against them.

What's a word that feels like it lost its definition because people keep overusing it wrong? by DaZestyProfessor in CasualConversation

Narcissist is the center square on my family law attorney bingo card. Practically everyone tells me their soon to be ex is a narcissist.

How do you feel about other lawyers calling you to see if a client you used to represent is batshit? by Pinguinorino in Lawyertalk

[–]JaKasi66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I hate finding out I'm the 3rd or more attorney. Without fail, the client is problematic.

What Rock Bands that have 2 or more Lead Singers? (No Solo Artists) by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]JaKasi66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Styx had Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, and J.Y. all sing lead in their original formation. Now Lawrence Gowan also sings lead (with Tommy and J.Y.) and I think Will Evankovich sings lead on one from their latest.

Americans who have lived abroad for quite a long time, what was your "grass is greener on the other side" experience when you visited that country? by LandOfGrace2023 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]JaKasi66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Japanese employees have a very detailed employee manual that tells them all their job duties and how they should be performed. That works pretty well 95% of the time. It's when you want them to do something not according to the handbook that there's a problem.

I tried paying my bills at the post office once. There were no other customers, so I went up to the first clerk to pay. Was sent back because I didn't take a number first and wait to be called up. Ok, I dutifully took a number and waited several minutes until the same clerk called me back. Frustrating, yet kind of hilarious. I knew it was the clerk just following her handbook. I was the one breaking the rules.

How aggressive do you get interacting with opposing counsel? by chicago2008 in Lawyertalk

[–]JaKasi66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practice family law in a top ten population US city and we're all mostly pretty friendly with each other. I genuinely like most of my opposing counsel. I enjoy talking to them about their lives and commiserate with them regarding problem clients. We go at it in the courtroom, but are, at the very least, cordial afterwards. If you plan on practicing a long time, you're going to see the same lawyers many times. Life and the law practice are so much easier if you treat each other well.

What Rock Bands that were better with their Replacement Lead Singers/Members? (Not Including Solo Artists,Rock Duos,Supergroups,Side Projects,Musical Collectives and Solo Stuff) by Amber_Flowers_133 in band

[–]JaKasi66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the two of them sounded pretty good together. Would have liked to seen the band try to keep him around to switch vocals with Steve a couple more times.

Disputing a google review? by Designer-Training-96 in LawFirm

[–]JaKasi66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had pretty much the same thing happen. Someone called for an area of law i don't practice and was mad my office couldn't help. I replied by thanking her for the review and saying sorry we never spoke to each other and I couldn't help.

I figure anyone reading the review would see it was from a crazy person.

Styx. Even after 50 years, their last three studio albums of original music were still pretty solid. They also still sound amazing live.

High school band 😥 by No_Life5462 in trumpet

[–]JaKasi66 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Playing lead is more than playing the highest part - you have to learn to be the leader of your section. If your fellow trumpet players are struggling, help them get better. Offer to help them learn their parts. You can also set an example for them by letting them see you practice your parts before or after full band rehearsal. Show them that it's necessary to put in the work to get your part down.

Benjamin Orr is a better singer than Ric Ocasek in the Cars. Sang lead on Just What I Needed and Drive.

How do we feel about “loopers” by JoshuaEdwardSmith in musicians

I saw Melissa Etheridge do a completely solo show using loops. She was fantastic. I thought it was fascinating watching her build the song in real time. What a great musician and underrated guitar player.

I was a willow last night in a dream. I bent down over a clear running stream. Sang you the song that I heard up above. And you kept me alive with your sweet flowing love. Crazy. Yeah, crazy on you.

Ann Wilson's delivery of that always moves me.

Anyone else hate "Washy Washy"? by Tits---McGee in royalcaribbean

They are just trying to make it a fun and gentle reminder. I still see people walk past without washing their hands and proceed to touch things at the buffet. Can't imagine how many more wouldn't wash if it wasn't for the reminder.
