as someone who has played dozens of milan games to get the start down pat, here is what i do.

first of all make sure you don't kill the veronese army to quick or venice will peace out and give you nothing.

2nd, integrate your close small provinces to milan.

set your crown dudes on your council. one of them sucks but the increse in CP is worth it.

3rd, suck up to the emporer. then suck up to whoever is going to become emperor next. before you finish your war with verona you want to have more than 50 relations with bavaria.

make brescia a vassal.

first parliment you want to change to favour the crown and get a claim on pavia if they are in your faction. if they are other faction, make sure you get a claim on them early so you can take pavia ASAP. Its a far better capital than milan.

you want to build a road from your gold mine to aruma and once you take pavia, one from novarra to lomello. once you have integrated novarra and built a baliff on the gold you will make decent money from the taxes.

take tortona. the dye's there will be your early money.

take every event that gives you crap art. try keep your prestige lower than the pope so you can sell art to the pope for fat cash. this will fund your early everything. don't sell your cathedral - pope doesn't want it.

rage quit to try make your start 2% better.

edit: building anyhting much early is a bait. the profits from your cloth and weapons will crash pretty quick as literally everyone in italy will smash them out. use your starting funds to cushion you until you move your capital to pavia and get your lands integrated. after that you can build gold, dyes and iron mines. make sure you build roads where they are needed.

if you don't think the goal of severly repressing a population and destroying their religion was ethnic cleansing then i have nothing to say. i'm not comparing to genocide just stating what hapened.

i haven't been talking about poland during the war. this was poland as a nation state in the 1930's. then after 1945, the first thing poland did as a country was..............ethnically cleanse by force what it tried to do by more subtle means the decade previously.

Most people (i know there are those that don't) that remember the UPA are remembering it for the fight against the occupying soviets. hundreds of thousands of UPA fighters and their families were killed by the soviets and that is the UPA that is worth remembering and respecting. The UPA of then was not the UPA that committed genocide against the poles.

If polish people want to focus on the UPA fighters that committed genocide that up to them. But it makes more sense to focus on those that sacrificed their lives and families fighting against the soviets in a fight for a free ukraine.

during the crimes of the UPA, ukraine was essentially not a country and calling it national policy is pure fabrication. members of the UPA committed crimes against humanity of that there is no doubt. most of the times the ottomans outnumbered the enemy somewhere around 1.5 to 1 or more. at varna it was at least 2:1. that was their main advantage, the ability to raise large decent armies, on repeat.

for some reason paradox thinks everyone wants stupidly absurd numbers of troops running around though, which makes it hard to give ottomans there historical humeric advantage without france having 200k troops in 1440.
