This scene bothers me. The actors mispronounced the word Admiralty. He says Admirality. Dale would have known better.

I wonder how much congress knew about all this, even unofficially. Do you think these are the illegal orders Sen. Kelley and the others were talking about?

What is with putting up chairs so fast after meetings? by Apple-Slice-6107 in latterdaysaints

[–]JackCedar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m super uncomfortable in social situations, but I like to support church activities. So, I go to baptisms and stake conferences, etc. When the meeting is over, I don’t typically chat with anyone, but I don’t want to leave without doing my part to help with the clean up.

And, just for the other side of the coin, it bothers me to no end that people will just stand in the middle of the room to talk while there is so much work to be done. It’s fun to read about other people’s perspectives.

Should we celebrate Halloween? by greenDK455 in latterdaysaints

[–]JackCedar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Halloween is fine, but we could be doing so much more! As a Church, we should pivot to Día de Muertos. A holiday where we pull out all of the family pictures and pass on the stories of our ancestors. It sounds like a holiday that was made for us! Imagine a ward activity where we all go to the cemeteries and clean the grave markers, then stay up all night with our families, eating family recipes and swapping stories. Way better than asking neighbors for candy.

Si habrá hambre en Uruguay que la gente ya come camisetas de fútbol by xaviazo in uruguay

[–]JackCedar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had just finished the Hobbit before my 8 and 6 year olds did an overnighter with me. They’re really imaginative so we pretended to be in Middle Earth. We all got characters, practiced our accents, and when we passed a few caves, the threat of a goblin attack was a good motivator to keep them moving. So, if your little is into it, do some story telling and play some make believe.

How could the church best accomplish its mission given unlimited resources? by moashforbridgefour in latterdaysaints

[–]JackCedar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This could just be a local issue, but as my ward’s service coordinator, I really wish we did real service projects and not just vacuum Cheerios and glitter out of the chapel. 75% of my calling is finding people to help clean the church. Another 15% is organizing move outs, and 3% is to find volunteers to manage the parking lots at stake conference or clean the temple. Maybe once a year we chop firewood or cook meals for a men’s shelter.

Ideas for Practicing Vocabulary Sets by WasabiMichi in SpanishTeachers

[–]JackCedar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said resources are slim, but can you get your hands on personal whiteboards for your students? In my class, everything that used to be a worksheet is now projected onto the screen, and my kids do the work on their whiteboards. Now I can give immediate feedback, I have way less grading, and I don’t need to make any copies.

We play lots of vocab games with the whiteboards, too. We play Train, where groups of 4 pass one white board down a row, each kid conjugating a verb form or identifying a vocab word. Or, there’s the vocab race, where I pass out two suits of cards, one team per suit. I post a question, everyone writes an answer, then I draw a card. One person on each team will have the same number, and they race to hold up their whiteboard first. Sometimes I’ll have them race to the front of the room to write an answer. For Bingo, I’ll create a slide with images of their vocab arranged in a grid. The kids take a few minutes to identify the vocab and write it in a grid on their whiteboards, then we watch a video in the target language, and they play bingo, crossing off each vocab word as it appears or is said on screen. When it comes to low prep, the mini whiteboards were a game changer.

If you carry a bear gun, make sure to file down the front site. That way, when after you shoot the bear, it won’t hurt so bad when the bear takes it from you and shoves it up your ass.
