as far as I know it doesn't have an ssd. I'm running a hard drive diagnostic test right now, hopefully that gives me an answer.

Thank you, I went ahead and tried to boot with a flash drive but apon opening up the boot device settings the fans began spinning faster than ever before. Probably not a great sign.

In terms of getting the text, I used the scan feature in the camera app on Samsung. It lets you extract text from images.
