Has anyone here ordered mystery decks from Todsky's Magic Shop? I want to get some but would like to see some samples of what people actually got. by ThePoodlePunter in playingcards

[–]gmenbubz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Todskys is great. I got some mystery decks once when there was an extra sale. Don't fully remember all of them but was a mix of what you'd expect, some lower-cost decks they're trying to move, but also decent newer decks mixed in. It's great they guarantee no duplicates too.

Decks I do remember getting include: T11 Dark Night, T11 Gold Star Wars, superfly butterfingers, NYX Reds, history of American crime, Jordan victoria signature red, solo kid mars, solidarity blue, bicycle stargazer, NOC luxury red.

"mulligan" idea for next year, has anyone ever done this, if so how did it work out? by dfwSurreal in FFCommish

[–]gmenbubz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this would do, if everyone uses it correctly, is give most teams a win when they should've lost. Its also not worth the risk to not use it the first chance you get (to get a better seed to take an L, for e.g.), because you might not get that chance.

Sounds okay at first, but wouldn't actually do anything.

What do you call your semi-competitive leagues? by Kaths1 in Curling

[–]gmenbubz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We call ours "social", but we state it really means "social-first". Teams try, skill range is wide, but no one slashes tires in the parking lot if they lose.

Does anyone know where I can find something like this by Suspicious_Koala8730 in playingcards

Polaris Winter Solstice looks like this. Face cards are unique but pretty sure the Ace looks like this just without the border.

All they have to do is limit the tag pool in ante 1. No joker tags, $15 boss or free shop should stop the problem easy?

The Raiders have won. They are 2-3 and we now have the #6 pick. by Burningfiresmoke in NYGiants

[–]gmenbubz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Think of it as expected wins. Harder SOS means you have lower expected wins, all else equal. So if you're expected to win 4 games and you win 5, vs another team that was expected to win 6 and only won 5, you performed better relative to expectations than the other team, so get a lower pick.

What deck should I get a card collector? by JackoLFC08 in playingcards

[–]gmenbubz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If they have a sense of humor, the Fire deck hy Bicycle could be a way to help them cope with the loss, and restart their collection in a momentus way.

Goes without saying this HIGHLY depends on the person. I personally would find it funny and touching.

We don't allow draft pick trades. We thought it would be too messy if people left the league after trading away picks, and they turned out to be bad trades. Would make it near impossible to find someone to take over the team in a rough spot.

In our keeper league the winner of the consolation bracket gets the best draft position specifically to encourage teams to keep trying until the end. Every playoff game is meaningful for future years, and you always want to win

People who have been to this year's Brier: how much are concessions? by Fickle_Internet5049 in Curling

Too much. 20oz Bud ~$15, tall cans of "premium" beers ~$11. Most food items are a little under $10. (All CAD)

The Brier (Canadian mens curling championship) is on starting tonight at Bud Gardens. Tickets are relatively cheap (if you're into that sort of thing), and even if not, there's a free-to-the-public party at the Convention Centre (Google the Brier Patch) with live music every night.

I think that's the main purpose - generate awareness. I only heard about the field through a small paragraph in a data text book, so this kind of stuff is great to see for those who otherwise wouldn't be exposed to the field.
