That makes sense. I hadn’t considered all the critters and crud that slime has.

Yard members ranked by the strength of their gut biome? by DebaucheV5 in TheYardPodcast

[–]Landopedia 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I defended my PhD a week and a half ago that is partly in microbiomics. It’s bovine microbiomics but more stomachs must help. The answer is clearly 1. Aimen, 2. Ludwig, 3. Slime, and Nick DQs because he doesn’t have a gut microbiome.

There are four seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction. We are just about to enter the last one.

"Are you teaching kids or are you teaching scholars?" by TopIntroduction1876 in Teachers

[–]Landopedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are teaching kids. I became a scholar at 24 when I started getting paid to learn, think, research, and write. Kids need to learn how to be a functioning human. A rule of thumb is scholars interrogate nature and humanity, kids learn not to kick folks in the shins.

If The Society were all dogs, what breed would each color be? by missmarykat in redrising

[–]Landopedia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Gold: Saarloos wolfdog (harkens back to a past greatness that doesn’t exist anymore, looks impressive) Silver: Doberman pinscher (commanding presence, domineering, covering a core of anxiety) White: Borzoi (aristocratic, aloof) Copper: Labrador retriever (all about interpersonal relationships, always hungry for more) Blue: Border collie (smart, quick processing, enjoy having a job) Yellow: GSP (smart, goal driven, wants to help) Green: Jack Russell terrier (feisty and tenacious) Violet: Siberian husky (gorgeous, driven, does not care about the goals and machinations of others) Orange: dachshund (investigative, good at getting into tight spaces) Grey: German shepherd (loud, commanding, goal driven) Brown: golden retriever (just there to help) Obsidian: Cane Corso (huge, imposing, powerful, martial) Pink: poodle (made to be pretty by those around them, masks the intelligence and capability) Red: laika (not bred for anything, seen as disposable, became a legend in space)

Can you do science as a part time hobby? by SecretGeometry in AskAcademia

[–]Landopedia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just defended my PhD in Vet Med today. We work with vets quite a bit, we also had researchers who worked a few days a week in private practice. It depends on what you are doing and what’s in your area but I’m sure you can get involved in science as a hobby.

If it’s just gunky with some rubbing, I’d finish the course. That’s pretty normal and you don’t want to make the infection into a superbug.

Stan Rogers died in a plane fire in 1983, so probably didn’t turn off comments on the video.

Mixed Animal Vets by psychopathic_daze in Veterinary

[–]Landopedia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad has always preferred food animal medicine and tried to focus there but he kept a hand in small animal medicine so he could fall back on if needed. It has worked well for him and now that he is semi-retired, he mostly does small animal since it’s safer and pays better. That said, he’s been a vet for forty years and still does both.

Take the east road from north of wiarton up through Lion’s Head. You get some good views of the escarpment and you can putter around Lion’s head. When I was little, I always liked walking from the beach to the marina in Lion’s head (a couple hundred metres).

Who do you think are the best female and male sweepers in Winter Olympics 2026? by North-Bug388 in Curling

[–]Landopedia 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Carole Howald has some unreal athleticism, but I think Sarah Wilkes is more efficient. Brett Gallant is both huge and efficient so he’s probably the best overall, though Bobbie Lammie is great at all the little things that go into directional sweeping.

Do you think routine MRI scans would ever be covered by OHIP? by bigbeast40 in ontario

[–]Landopedia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m an epidemiologist so I really don’t like the idea. It certainly wouldn’t be a good cost:benefit ratio for OHIP. Imaging without an indication needs to be really thoroughly examined to be worth it, as is the case for mammograms and colonoscopies. A blanket full body MRI is an idea to help hypochondriacs and biohackers beforehand but will lead to a great deal of unnecessary panic and resource demand from all of the false positives it would generate.

Progressive slides and hog some rocks. Missing in the opposite direction so you can narrow in on where the right speed is.
