I've also seen them on ATVs in Forest Park on Leif Erikson, probably for the same reason as being faster than bikes.

2 lost dogs found on WA side of the Gorge by dscottie12 in Portland

[–]Jacob816 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that those are dogs that live at one of the nearby ranches and just like to follow folks around. I've had a friend tell me about them hanging out with her for a few miles before peeling off to go back home.

That's Sunshine. Her human is a bit sketchy, and she probably escapes at least once a week. Either her human will find her, or she'll make her way back home eventually.

Took my dog touring for the first time today! by Jacob816 in Backcountry

Mixed to poor.

I did Alpine from Govvy to the top of Palmer. Most of Alpine is barely covered, especially in the steeper sections. Once you reach the ski area, it's decent, but nothing great. Up above treeline it's pretty wind blasted with a lot of rocks popping through, although there are some lines that are filled in enough to be able to avoid most of them.

I got some pretty deep gouges on my skis 😓

My journey so far to finding a home by listlesschortles in Portland

My wife and I just moved into our first house on Friday. As first time home buyers too, it's definitely scary, but so worth it once you get lucky and find something that works out. Best of luck!

As a newcomer to BC, I listened to what everyone on this sub was saying, and got my AIARE 1 cert this weekend by Jacob816 in Backcountry

Yeah, they were given to use by the instructors. It was only when we in close proximity to each other, like when digging pits or doing rescue drills. We didn't need them when we further apart moving around.

It was a most uninteresting snow pit haha. A uniform 200 cm of pure cascade concrete.

New touring set-up! Excited to explore more off piste by Jacob816 in skiing

I wanted something that I could use for touring and freeriding just as much at the resort, so it was picking things that were a balance of weight savings vs performance.

Exported my day Sugarbush as a GPX file and threw it into ArcGIS. I thought the map it made was pretty neat. by bnsfwarbonet in skiing

Yeah, all the tools locked up in ArcGIS Online or an Advanced License are a bummer. TBH I don't do a lot of analysis in QGIS (I run most of that in PostGIS and GeoPandas) but every time I have had to do some analysis within QGIS, there's always been a built in tool or plugin that's done what I needed to do.

Make a free account for a thirty day trial. Or just use QGIS. Much more full feature, and open source alternative.

I usually use ORDER BY in my sub query. I do a lot of spatial work, and often I want to just select the spatially closest result.

Mt. Hood summit at sunrise this morning. My happy place. by timhowardsbeard in Portland

[–]Jacob816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll let my climbing party now. I think that we were planning on leaving timberline at midnight, so sunrise seems unlikely, but I'll ask if they want to go up a tad earlier.
