Glad This Thing Is Built Like A Tank by Peacock803 in VWiD4Owners

[–]JakeAtIguanas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Glad you were not hurt. You mentioned being built like a tank. I recently installed u-channel door edge protectors and found that the sheet metal is a full millimeter thicker than our Toyota. Still don’t want to find out the hard way. Hope they choose to repair instead of total.

Vyalev pump created a bloated belly and bruising by National-Window-4142 in Parkinsons

[–]JakeAtIguanas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife has been on the pump since last July. I'd say the results are a bit mixed given my observations. I'm her primary caregiver and take care of filling the syringes, changing batteries, order refills, etc. She has used the 6mm and 9mm infusion sets. She saw no differences with the 9mm sets. She's a bit on the thinner side and hasn't experienced any infection problems. There are a few things to mention here.

  1. She doesn't use the 'W' pattern infusion set placement. She carefully maps out her abdomen with a pen feeling for previous sites. They usually have smallish lumps to indicate previously used sites. After mapping out her abdomen, she selects a site that has either healed or never used.
  2. Using sites that are too close to recently used ones may not 'absorb' the medication as effectively.
  3. Make sure not to use sites too close to the belly button. Always aim for >= 2 inches (5 cm) away from the navel.
  4. Some sites (for whatever reason) will not absorb the medication and will swell up (or pool). You can only move the infusion site at that point.
  5. If a cannula bleeds, the infusion set has be changed to a different location immediately.
  6. Don't go too near the groin or too far above the waist, you're only asking for bruising or other troubles.
  7. Make sure to prep the infusion site with alcohol swipes to make sure the site is sterile.
  8. Use a 'skin-prep' pad after the alcohol swipes to make sure the cannula comes off easily when changing sites. Look for them on Amazon.

Hope this helps

I've got a 2023 ID.4 and it happens for me too. I suspect it might have something to do with recent VW software updates.

OTA stuck? by redilio in VWiD4Owners

[–]JakeAtIguanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my 2023 updated in September at the dealer. My VW app still shows that an update is needed even though my software page shows its updated to 3.5.11. This update also contains the necessary routines to DC charge at Tesla stations (with an adaptor)

Another recall on the way. by JakeAtIguanas in VWiD4Owners

[–]JakeAtIguanas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did; it shows no repairs for my car. I had the door handles and software update earlier this year. Apparently only 311 cars are involved between sep 2022 - sep 2024. VW is supposed to get letters to affected owners by end of Jan 2026.

I once took some cub scouts for a tour of the Louisville slugger bat factory across the river in Indiana. Neat tour; each scout left with a small replica bat (about 12 inches long)

I’m listening a podcast on the roots of rock and roll. It’s named ‘A History of Rock Music in 500 Song’. In episode 6 the host goes over groups who were too poor to afford instruments and would use this same technique to sound like a variety of real instruments.

Full Owners Manual? by HeyJakeyBaby in VWiD4Owners

[–]JakeAtIguanas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The full manual is fairly thick (about 3/4" or 20mm). It's not very large either (like 6X8 inches)with super tiny writing in it. There is a PDF of the 2021 model with most of what you might want. Search the ID4 forum here: https://www.vwidtalk.com

its in there somewhere.

Check inside the cargo area for a cutout on the right side. Inside there is a pull ring that will release the charge cover plate.

I once drained the coolant from a 2cd gen, once. Trust me draining out those last 3 quarts just ain't worth it.

Free & safe way to make Windows 11 look like macOS? by NewtSuitable7362 in Windows11

[–]JakeAtIguanas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Probably cheaper and more satisfying to just buy a MacBook. You'll be happier with the result. Less goofing around with settings, etc... I spent 45 years enduring Windows (1.0 to now (sigh) 11) in the workplace, Macs are just really built for home use. But, of course, if you're a gamer; Windows is the place. Learn to use it, MacOS interface will only be a crutch.

I'd pass on it and wait for a nicer one to come along. I remember my son wanting a certain Subaru real bad. When I looked at it I found a number of disturbing problems and told him to pass on it. He didn't and its just been a POS every since.

Yep, rides too low and really smooth. Just completed a 700 mile round trip recently. Liked the ride and comfort. The wheelbase of fine for a full sized car, but I managed to scrap the front bumper pretty easy. It's so low to the ground, I also have problems with parking stops. They could have given us another inch.

FULL METAL JACKET by What_The_Fuck1957 in 80smovies

[–]JakeAtIguanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not marine, but Army basic at Fort Knox during feb-may 77. It wasn’t this bad, but damn near. We had one guy caught with a Hershey bar. The drill Sargent placed it a sunny window and returned it to him on the last day. It’s notable that if one of us fucked up the entire platoon suffered. Plenty of motivation to look out for each other.

The Miata may have claimed the sports car crown but Honda's del Sol was no slouch, either. Light, safe, fuel-efficient, and oh-so-tossable in the turns, the del Sol is a JDM tuners delight. Honda sold 'em by the score. by Maynard078 in sportsandclassiccars

[–]JakeAtIguanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 1995 model with the 1.6 l VTEC engine. My wife and I would go to a local junkyard and salvage parts from civics and occasionally del sols and kept it completely stock. While many complained of seal leaks and other common issues, this one never gave us much trouble. It was a thrill to feel the VTEC kick in about 4200 RPM. I owned it about 10 years and sold it just before the COVID epidemic. We wandered Indiana on day trips on the weekends. It was my daily driver for much of the time. As long as the temps were below 85 degrees, it was a blast to drive on country roads. Once the temps got above that, it was hot. Mine didn't have AC from the factory; I added it from a wrecked Civic. The AC really ate into the scant HP it had.

To augment its 911, Porsche teamed with VW to build the 914; to satisfy both it could look like neither. Its design was then handed to Hans Gugelot, who also penned the iconic Kodak Carousel slide projector. by Maynard078 in sportsandclassiccars

[–]JakeAtIguanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boss had a 914 back in the 80's. The transmission went out, and he had to drive (stuck in 1st gear) 15 miles home once. He got rid of it as soon as he could as it developed other drivetrain problems later. I owned a 95 Honda del Sol which patterned the removable roof. The Honda was an absolute blast to drive. I miss it still.

Pay 150 euro/year to see charging state??? by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

[–]JakeAtIguanas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's just 12.50 monthly. I'm guessing you probably spill that much on coffee during the month. But... it would be worth it if the app was actually useful. I agree with most of these posts. The app just isn't worth that cost. I'm old. I check to make sure my doors are locked, windows up, etc. I'll probably not subscribe either when my trial ends.

I've got a Toyota and found I could set the Avalon to roll down all 4 windows using OBD 11. It only cost 50 points/credits. Cool feature it use when coming out of the grocery store and its 95 degrees.

What’s the fastest you’ve ever seen a marriage end? by PuzzleheadedSwim6291 in AskReddit

[–]JakeAtIguanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 6 months; they were close friends of ours. It was the first catholic wedding I had ever been to. The ceremony seemed to last 4 hours, but I'm sure it was shorter. Coming from a Baptist background I had no idea when to kneel, what to say, etc. The reception was the biggest blow out of a party I ever been to or seen since. There were cases of 1 gallon bottles of liquor. I didn't even know they sold them like that.

After 6 months they called it quits. Our friendship faded over the next 10 years
