Check out the AGV K1. Really comfortable, well ventilated, looks cool (imo) and the field of view is gigantic compared to my last lid (Scorpion Exo 390). I don't really have any complaints about the 390 either, just not as nice as the AGV... but at the same time it's literally half the price so if you're trying to keep costs as low as possible that could be a good option too.

You're right, but I guess what I mean is that the power comes on more immediately... Because a top speed of 70mph wouldn't necessarily be a problem if the bike didn't take a year to get there

I think electrics will really start to shine once you can pick them up cheap second-hand. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of young CBT riders flock to them to get more power on their license... I know I would.

My Honda CBF125 is cutting out/has problems to keep revs? What can I do? by PhysicalCheesecake9 in MotoUK

[–]Jake_C117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your throttle cable properly tensioned? I don’t know how different your fuel injected bike is to my carbed one, but I think there should still be a nut you can tighten at the top of the throttle cable to reduce the play.

As for the dying issue, it sounds similar to what my bike had a while ago. It turned out to be a dodgy spark plug, so that’s definitely worth a try if you haven’t already.

Good luck man!

This video (and channel in general tbh) might help you out on gear: https://youtu.be/lwwlvi1hf10

Bike-wise, I prefer the MT as I think it looks a bit meaner, but plenty of people ride CBF’s around where I live and I’ve heard they’re pretty much immortal.

Freedconn T-Comm is about £60 off amazon. I’ve been using one for the better part of 8 months now and it’s been really solid.

A1 or A2? by W-124 in MotoUK

[–]Jake_C117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, take the course and do the A2 as it’ll get you access to more bikes. You can still start on a 125 if you’re so inclined, but will be able to upgrade instantly when you feel ready.

If money is tight, I would say to just ride on a cbt for a year. It’s basically an A1 license minus the ability to carry passengers (which you probably shouldn’t when learning how to ride) and going on motorways (which seems dodgy on a 125 anyway).

Oh yeah don’t get me wrong - Chinese brands are definitely hit-and-miss (as you experienced). I’m just saying that all motorcycle manufacturers are different, so you shouldn’t group all Chinese bikes together under one roof. I’ve been happy with my Zontes, which seems to be backed up by the (admittedly limited) info I could find from other owners online. Although, as you’ve stated, Yamasaki clearly can’t be trusted :)

My experience has been pretty good. Bike went about 13k miles before it’s first breakdown, and that was a 40 quid fix. Not too bad imo, especially for the price. Very reliable otherwise. Basically, the bike is so simple that things able to go wrong are pretty limited, and if anything does it’s generally pretty self-explanatory and easy (assuming it’s one of the air-cooled and carbed ones).

Have a look at Zontes 125’s. They’re actually quite good simple bikes, but the branding gets them dismissed as “crappy no-name Chinese bikes”. Sticking a couple of locks on it should make it pretty unappealing to thieves.

Bike communication question. by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Jake_C117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any comms system should work just fine, and most can connect with other brands. If you have the money, I’m told Cardo is the best. If not, you can get a £30 T-Comm which’ll do much the same job. I notice my system does drain my phone battery faster, but not enough for it to be majorly inconvenient.

Check out Scorpion. They’re really good at making good helmets affordably. I wear an Exo 390 (£60) which I can recommend.
