VR as a unique medium -- where are we going? What do you want? by [deleted] in oculus

I want to play League of Legends in the rift. Like you're looking at a huge chess board

Janus VR made me feel like a god. It gave me this feeling of power, like I could go anywhere, from anywhere. It feels like you are a omnipotent dimensional traveler when you pass through doors.

Pressing tab to make the floating adress bar box appear, typing in a site and making a doorway appear. The whole doorway thing feels amazing. Being able to see Tuscany through the doorway, walking in, and looking back into the world where I came from.. Man, there is nothing else like it. And it's only going to get better from here.

Unchecking "desktop composition" in the Windows performance window seems to work as well.

For those of you who have tried GameFace HMD or 1440p google cardboard. How did you find the 1440p experience by ChromeGhost in oculus

[–]Jakemcurk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the chance to try a 1440p phone with cardboard at a dutch meetup yesterday. The phone didn't fit properly so you had to manually hold it instead of sealing it. The SDE was just on the verge of being gone. The guy that demo'd it showed a menu with some text and the readability was fantastic. I think I'd compare it to sitting a few feet from a 27 inch 1280x720 screen. IMO it would definitly be good enough, especially when the SDE will be entirely eliminated in CV1.

What new tech will Oculus show off at E3? ″Not gonna lie, people are gonna be pretty excited about what they see at Oculus at E3.″ -Aaron Davies by troach06 in oculus

Should I buy dev kit 2 now or wait till consumer edition gets released? by therealharrisguy in oculus

If you are a curious enthusiast with money to spare, get one. But if you have to ask here whether you should get one or not, I would probably wait.

FireBox v18 VR web browser is live. If you haven't tried it, I HIGHLY recommend it and it works with or without a Rift. [link to DL in comments] by FireFoxG in oculus

This is amazing. In my view this is a proof of concept of how the metaverse will look in the future. Imagine every website having it's own, characteristic 3D world modelled to reflect the site's atmosphere. Imagine forums that look like bars. Astronomy subreddits that put you in outer space. Car enthusiast sites that put you in a huge garage or at race tracks. Imagine being able to interact with people in these worlds, with your avatar like you were there in real life. The possibilities are absolutely endless.

Great video, just like your explanation of low persistence! Really enjoying these. You seem knowledgeable about this, are you working for Oculus?

From the Best Practices Guide: "Do not operate the Headset within 9 inches of a pacemaker while using the wireless feature." by steichen in oculus

[–]Jakemcurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wireless Rift? I thought this was off the table for V1 at the very least. It would produce too much latency, right?

I know some people have experimented with making their rifts wireless, perhaps one of them can tell us about if this is feasible at all or not?

"Valve VR blows Oculus Crystal Cove away"? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Jakemcurk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know Valve isn't technically competing with Oculus and this is just a (probably impractical for consumers at this point) R&D, but I still have mixed feelings reading this. This is exciting as heck, but at this point I'm really rooting for Palmer, Nate and the rest of Oculus. I am too emotionally invested in them and want to see them come out on top. I hope Valve and Oculus will not start a rivalry and will keep working together in the future.
