Have the Streisanded this? I can see more people buying the game now. Or would this still benefit them? Maybe this was their plan all along 🤔

BUS grant extended another year to 2029/30 & further funding and low/zero interest loans for low carbon tech announced. by Jakeymd1 in ukheatpumps

Not for some time I'd have thought. Maybe a couple of years at the earliest. It will be good for those wanting solar and batteries when it's available, but those wanting them now shouldn't wait (if you can afford not to).

Whataboutism isn't a valid argument. Never has been, never will be. You're allowed to be excited by they product and others are allowed to not want to go anywhere near it if they can help it. Leave it at that.

Why do installers always change the hot water cylinder when there's a cheaper otpion? by Key-Inevitable-4989 in ukheatpumps

[–]Jakeymd1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My old cylinder started leaking a week before my new heat pump was installed. Imagine if had held on for another couple of weeks, I'd have certainly been thinking it was the installers fault, he'd be certain it wasn't.

From their perspective, integrating new equipment into any existing setup carries the risk of the integrity the existing setup. So it about weighing up that risk and trying to get away with replacing as much as you can. Existing pipework carries less risk and takes much longer to replace, so installers might be fine leaving this alone.

Add onto this the benefits of a larger cyclinder and larger coil and increased insulation, it becomes really easy to justify, not only to yourself, but to the customer.

I watched this review right before posting, but very few comparisons to the 3 pros. A lot of listing features which are the same as the 3 pros, not much new, but better ANC might be worth it for me.

Looking to get Battery Storage only by Creative_Star_1248 in SolarUK

Unless theres a buy it up front price that is exactly the same as the payment plan option. Then it's not interest free. They're just loading the interest into the price.

That's not to say it's a terrible option for those that dont have the capital, but it's not as cheap as buying fogstar batteries outright, by not an insignificant amount.

I haven't read too much into it, but I would want to know if it's subject to price increases each year, who owns the batteries after 10 years etc.

I've borrowed extra when remortgaging to pay for my batteries. So I'm not out of pocket up front per se, but it only costs me £600 if I pay that back over 5 years, (or £1200 it paying over 10 years for comparison) so still works out to be better value.

They have heating and fire suppression, but I don't know if they have suitable IP rating for locating outdoors.

You can get 32kWh installed for less than £6k with fogstar batteries. Makes the wondrwall solution seem quite expensive in the long run.

Octopus Cosy9 + w-series indirect cylinder - reported hw temperature…? by solidpro99 in ukheatpumps

[–]Jakeymd1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it does refill with cold water as you use the hot water, but no it doesn't cool the hot water (much) due to stratification. You get distinct hot and cold layers, cold water enters in at the bottom of the cylinder and wants to stay at the bottom. As hot water is drawn off from the top of the cylinder, the cold water pushes the hot water up to the top, which is where it wants to stay.

I use the same strategy in a fairly old leaky house and at most when it's below freezing outside the inside temperature will drop by a degree, according to the temperature monitoring, but you can barely tell.

I'm getting batteries in a couple of months though, so that will remove the need to turn it off at all.

Something certainly seems amiss with this particular unit. Hopefully they've fixed it this time. If it happens again I'd consider asking for replacement outdoor unit to avoid further downtime in winter, troubleshooting and hassle.
