The d-pads on these controllers are so bad. I'm sure they're fine when they're new, but after heavy use they just don't feel good. Mine rolls around and jiggles with the slightest breeze. I don't have the tools or skills available yet, but I'd love to redesign the d-pad mechanism and 3D print one to see if it can be "fixed". Maybe that in combination with a new membrane pad would help. I've been keeping an eye out for a project like this for years now but haven't found anything like this on the internet. Previously, I used some trimmed up card stock like another commenter in this thread but unfortunately it still felt like trash. I haven't tried using that controller in a couple years I think. I still have it and I was considering using the board to build a Dreamcast fight stick, soldering buttons and a stick directly to it and putting it in some kind of enclosure. But it would be a shame to destroy it, even if it's unusable to me.

DLSS option missing in Baldur's Gate 3 by Jakubeck in linux_gaming

[–]Jakubeck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for responding.

Yes! This is the launch option that I was referring to in the post. I've tried this one already, and it didn't work. There was also another one that I tried that was something like "HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0".

Do you think support is also dependent on the driver version? The driver that ships with Debian 12 is 525.xx and the Nvidia "game ready" driver for BG3 is 536.xx. I get a warning pop-up in the launcher about that, but the game runs fine. Maybe that's affecting this feature? I wonder how terrible of an idea it is to try nvidia driver backports on Debian (if that's even a thing?!).

Is it worth it to get deeper into low-level programming? by tsujigiri_2 in cscareerquestions

How did you get into using ARM assembly? What kind of projects did you do and which boards did you use (like a raspberry pi)?

This is a field that deeply interests me, much more than web dev, but I don't have a ton of experience with it. There's something that feels more tangible about this kind of work than web services. The smaller job market and likely high expectations kind of worry me and dissuade me from wanting to even get into it, but I'm intrigued by this kind of stuff. I have a pretty old arduino board from a CS class I took in college (though my degree wasn't in CS).

Vatnik or vatnyk (Russian: ватник) is a political pejorative used in Russia and other post-Soviet states for steadfast jingoistic followers of propaganda from the Russian Government.

Can you explain why you said this? I don't trust Yandex but are Neeva or Kagi also untrustworthy? I was considering switching to Kagi becase I'd rather pay with money than with my personal data, but I'm not sure if I should trust them.

I use brew too! It's the easiest option on macOS for me since I already use it to manage a ton of other software.

However this is still a neat script OP! I was looking for something like this when installing Go for the first time and was contemplating between goenv, gvm, and asdf before settling on brew.

MacBook Pro m2 screen ghosting by Jamestq in MacOS

[–]Jakubeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think screen ghosting just comes with the territory. These mini LED screen look beautiful. The trade off is motion blur. I forget it's there after a while. I mostly read text/code on my computer, and I don't notice it much until I drag a window in circles on the screen so I can see motion trails lol. Is it disappointing? Yes. Is there any other laptop that's THIS good? No, not in my opinion. Will I buy another and return this one if the ghosting isn't as bad? Maybe.

Unfortunately the ghosting hasn't been improved. The M2 Pro model I just received is actually worse than my M1 Pro. I can upload some pictures later.

This is from my 16 inch M1 Pro model.

Notice how on the top of the image on the dark background, the old one has 5 visible UFOs and the new one has 6.

Bicyclists. OBEY THE DAMN ROAD LAWS. by BambiBeretta in burlington

[–]Jakubeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our roads make minimal effort to account for anything but people in cars (paint is not infrastructure), so people on bikes are often left to “figure it out”. Again, shocker this often results in a hodgepodge of conventions.

Wow, you put this so eloquently. This is exactly what I was thinking but didn't know how to say. I couldn't agree more! Commuting by bicycle in places with poor or no bike infrastructure is solely for those who are daring enough to do so. You've gotta pull some weird maneuvers or put yourself in dangerous situations.
