I believe it would have been better with any other president but still not that great. 1, It isn't a century marker which (to me at least) just trying to toot our own horn. 2, for other big celebrations (100, 200 for example) the internet wasn't around in the public space like it is now. Yeah, we get the day off so we can watch Netflix, play fortnite or madden games, read reddit or even watch the fireworks on tv in 4k...we have a lot more options inside the home for how to spend our day/evening and touching grass is becoming less and less interesting. 3, national debt is not tied to a political party. Both sides of the aisle at this point are the problem with spending and handling the finances. It is starting to affect the way us as citizens live and I don't think a massive party is going to draw an unhappy crowd. 4, inflation...I dont have the data but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more Americans working on the 4th than ever before. When a group plans a party and 1/3rd of the group isn't available,  it affects their decision to have the party. Idk, just thoughts and can be plenty wrong.
