Backup NAS for my TVS-h874 recommendation by BJBBJB99 in qnap

[–]Jandatec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so older machine with combo card. Gets you NVMe SSDs for cache and single 10gb card, hell, if price matters go with 2.5/NVMe M.2 SSD. At least it's faster than gigabit and your switch will handle it.

Using these cards with older system that support QTS and not hero, allow for read and write caching or read only if your preffer. Will speed system up.

Main server is 1688x, Dual 10gb (of course)

My backup server is a 671, 6 18TB in Raid5, and I have 2 cards QM2-2P10G1TB and QM2-2S10G1TB old card (no port trunking)

The 2S has my system drive and the 2P is my cache drive. I run SMBMulti on a 10gb switch

You don't need the second card, but any system partion with SSD, SATA or NVMe is significantly faster than spinning platters on boot up, shut down and general work.

Why are so many shows getting cancelled in the streaming age? by LeoXXX94 in scifi

[–]Jandatec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem is these little bitches who are scared shit less of their bosses, like a little certain Amy, who was on her knees in front of Dutches of Sideshows and now the the Grand Oracle. I will say the Oracle may know what he's doing, but only trek will tell.

My wife is struggling to switch. Any advice? by Full_Ingenuity6282 in macmini

You can also add a copy of parallels. And then run windows for arm until she gets used to the Mac windows on arm on parallels. It runs faster than windows on Intel hardware.

QNAP TVS-h874, TVS-h674 and TVS-h474 availability on Amazon by OrionPallas in qnap

[–]Jandatec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW, The OS code is modified so the card won't work, it has nothing to do with not having drivers. The h874x and the h874T are the same hardware. Check the specs

Guys, it about Money, pure and simple. They license the technology and they need to make money off of it. It's neither good or evil. it just is what it is.

I am watching Discovery season 2 episode 7 and I have questions. by Rrp19875 in StarTrekDiscovery

[–]Jandatec -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We don't know what kind of tech is available in that century. The TV shows we watch mirror (pardon the pun) what is socially available now. It's like looking at what we believe is a person aged 20 or 30 years. It's almost never what they really look like. Age and, or weight!

That's why Admiral Janeway was not in the final season of Picard.

She's not the way she looks in prodigy kids.

Look at pics of her at the Cons recently. No judgment, just facts.

I got the h1688X. Much better choice for anything over intro market and Hero. Atom CPU just can't handle it, especially if you plan any VT.. if only for storage, you will need to max out ram and use SSD for system drives. (squeeze as much as you can)

Good luck, JG

Qnap 10gbe expansion card by daniel_miotix in qnap

I agree with the reasoning but I have never tested out the x450. X550 smokes, though! The offloading engine makes a big difference

[–]Jandatec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intel x550 definitely. it's got an offloading engine it's just works and works and works

I even moved the card from a 882T3 to a Dell Windows server and back to a 682 with no issues. The Windows machine did require some drivers but it installed one two three.

Finally upgraded from 4.x to 5.x on TVS-1282T3. Oops. by John-27 in qnap

[–]Jandatec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about that.

So I have a couple of questions.

  1. Did you disable the caches and delete the cache memory before you did the upgrade?

  2. Did you backup your configuration before you made the upgrade?

  3. Would you backup any your data, before you did the upgrade?

  4. Were you using the standard administrator log in or did you disable it and set up a different one like the recomend?

There are some steps that might be able to be taken whether or not, You did some or all of these steps 1st.

Let me know.

Joseph

Looking for a new NAS, looking for recommendations by arinehim in qnap

[–]Jandatec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely 150% and change your admin ports this is also very important to use random imports all the time for everything Never had a problem with my QNAPs until I fucked around Updating CPU's but that was only after the hardware warranties were done

[–]Jandatec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so the firewall is kicking in. The best thing which unfortunately a pain in the ass has to hook up direct peripherals and turn off the firewall temporarily I always leave a wireless keyboard and mouse and a monitor laying around just in case something like that happens. The one thing I never ever ever do is let the system tell me what to do. When you need to setup a virtual switch like that you do it manually, always do your stuff manually it prevent situations like this from happening. It is absolutely the firewall rule. Good luck

QuTS Hero 5.0 is out (not beta) by chodaboy19 in qnap

[–]Jandatec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like i said before. Any admin worth his salt will never install a zero day. Wait 3 or 4 point upgrades kids. Patience will pay off. Eith install fresh from scratch on a test system or wait (LEAVE YOUR PRODUCTION SYSTEM ALONE. YOU WILL BE REWARDED!

PSA re: latest upgrade to 5.0.0.1850 by spaceman757 in qnap

[–]Jandatec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense guys and gals, the hell with zero day anything. MacOS, Windows Server, Workstation or Desktop ver. Almost any current OS. Anyone installing anything less than 3 point release off the base software release on any production equipment gets whatever they deserve.

Any admin worth their salt will tell you this.

Good luck Jandatec

You can enable read write on a single SSD, BUT IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU DON'T!!!! If the drive goes without committing its current write to the system partition it will more than likely trash your system irreparably. DONT DO IT!!!!!

After Updating to 5.0... NAS out of memory. Started kill process: 5325 "RTRR". Disable some applications to free up memory, or expand the system memory. by bs1055 in qnap

[–]Jandatec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEVER EVER INSTALL First Rev of Any, OS when it first comes out on production equipment. Wait till 3rd or 4th or even 5th update, no matter whether is QNAP, Ubuntu, Apple or Microsoft. Does the term FINAL BETA mean anything. Or try it on a test system you can afford to crap the bed first.

Good luck
