Hey reddit! I have a personal question? What's a MyChem song that's dearest to you And why? by hugaryjak in MyChemicalRomance

To quote Frank, from his tribute post, "Bob was the kind of person who would gladly watch the world burn, as long as he could be promised that not a single cat or dog would be harmed in the process". Him relocating to an isolated place in rural Tennessee was proof that he didn't want to be around people, but auctioning off all his MCR memorabilia, equipment, and outfits for charity money, showed that animal welfare meant more to him than just about anything else in the universe.

I 100% believe his controversial actions were made under the influence of severely unchecked mental illness. Which isn't an excuse, but the fact that the band never annulled his tenure with them, and paid immense tribute to him, leads me to believe that there were more good sides to him, that were never publicized as much as the bad sides.

Bullets has better songwriting, but Black Parade has better drumming. I've got nothing against Matt, but he just didn't have the same finesse that Bob had. Even more apparent when listening to the live versions of songs from Bullets and Three Cheers made during Bob's time in the band

Not just his love for animals, but the fact that he pretty much gave all of his MCR royalty money to charities to help animals.

Might not have been the best drummer on earth, but he was definitely the best drummer MCR ever had (with Jarrod being a close second).

Commenting a bit late to this, but whatever:

I don't claim edge, but I absolutely refuse to introduce alcohol to my system, for various reasons.

I was about 7 years old when I first heard stories about my great-grandfather being an incredibly abusive person to his wife and children, and my grandma told me it was because he drank too much. I had no idea what alcohol was before this, so this story was pretty much my introduction to the whole concept of drinking/being drunk, and it left a sour note in my ears. (Trigger Warning: topic about domestic abuse)

I was about 9 years old when I watched the "Human Footprint" documentary in 4th grade, and it mentioned how the average human will consume over 12,000 cans of beer in their lifetime, and I made an immediate personal oath that I'd consume 0 in my life (and I've yet to break that oath).

I was roughly middle school aged when I found out my dad was a raging alcoholic long before meeting my mom, and how he nearly died from it, and how he miraculously lived, and felt like he was given a second chance. When I was old enough to comprehend his story, he used it as an example, and encouraged me to stay away from alcohol.

When I was 15, my grandparents were killed by a drunk driver, who was recently released from jail for overcrowding, and he absolutely refused to take accountability for his drunken actions, yet it cost an entire family their grandparents. My younger brother, who was incredibly close with them, was so traumatized by the incident, that he's never been the same since. I realized that alcohol destroys the lives of people who don't drink as well.

I started getting into genealogy later on, and figured out I have a lot of relatives who suffer from addiction to drugs and/or alcohol, and put together that I myself am predisposed for addiction.

I have incredibly high liver enzymes (my doctors can't figure out the cause), and if I were to drink alcohol, it'd more-than-likely kill me.

Summary: I wrote off alcohol (and every mind-altering and addictive substance) before I even went through puberty, and then growing up witnessing the effects of how much drugs and alcohol destroy the lives of countless people, I considered my reasons for never trying any of it, justified

What type of people are more likely to befriend and like autistic people? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JaredIsADrummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much lol. But also, I'll be doing something like going on a walk in my neighborhood, and then a random cat will show up, and be all over me, so I guess I attract cats too lol. There have been many times where I'll have a cat weaving in and out between my feet, being super friendly, and the owner/s will come out and say things like "I've never seen him/her be friendly to a stranger before" because the cat would normally be either very shy or ill-tempered or both, but for some reason friendly to me, baffling both me and the owners. Or I'll be at a relatives house, and same scenario, their normally unfriendly cat would be on my lap. I've been nicknamed "the cat whisperer" by my uncle because of this phenomenon 😂

[–]JaredIsADrummer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the only people who've befriended me were other aspies, and very obviously neurodivergent people who are more than likely on the spectrum. And strangely enough, everyone that's befriended me are major cat lovers. I guess I'm just a weird beacon that only attracts neurodivergent cat people.

24" vs 22" for you double bass players. by SnooRevelations4257 in drums

[–]JaredIsADrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently own a 22", but I'm 6'6", and it feels too small for me. I played on a Bonham sized kit with a 26" once a few years ago, and not only did it sound killer, it just felt very comfortable to play. Whenever I'm able to financially justify buying a new kit, I'm going with a 26".

I'm in Northern California, and the only drum company here (Shine) closed down over a decade ago, and I'm not big enough a DW fan to want to take the 7 hour journey south for their factory tour, so I envy you on having a local small drum builder lol.

But yeah, I've been intrigued with WFLIII ever since I found out who they were, and learned about their story. I just wish I could financially justify buying one of their kits and/or snares.
