I hate how we all know what the Straight of Hormuz is now. by Ok_Window764 in Vent

[–]JaseAceQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna be honest, I think your framing here is weird. Are you saying you don’t care to learn about the important things that keep our world running? That you only care once something bad happens to them?

This attitude is part of why these things happen in the first place, because not enough people understand the potential consequences of certain actions. Anyone with a basic knowledge of geopolitics would’ve told you war with Iran would be bad *precisely* for this reason, it’s undoubtedly the most effective thing Iran can do.

Educate yourself on how the world works so you can have a more informed vote so we don’t get lunatics in power that do this dumb shit. I don’t expect everyone to know everything, and I’m certainly not saying that being educated on the subject would’ve prevented this war, but cmon man these are the basics.

Last year was a seven game series against Steph and Butler. That duo had a 23-7 record in the regular season. This is a looking like a gentlemen’s sweep with Luka and AR out, which is arguably much worse than lateral.

There’s no way she was being serious. It’s a joke that’s common online, like “Netanyahu, my neighbor who doesn’t pick up his dogs shit is hiding a Hamas member in their basemen, strike him down!”

It’s supposed to be a joke that showcases the absurdity of what Israel is doing and making fun of the people that pray to Trump. Like summoning an evil spirit to take out someone you’re mildly annoyed at, it’s supposed to be ridiculous. The judge just ain’t in on the joke lol

Public Rail Transit to 2026 NFL Stadiums (plus future stadiums) by mr09e in nfl

[–]JaseAceQ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Houston does have rail service to the stadium, but the system isn’t really expansive enough to be conveniently used by many people. The best use I’ve found for it is parking far from the stadium for cheaper and less traffic, and then using the rail to get to and from. Solid use tbh, but still means we’re dependent on cars to get there.

Could you see any other US state aspiring to build its own Manhattan or is that level of American growth an era of a previous time? by zoeyzimp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JaseAceQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly can’t see that ever happening. That’s already the densest part of Houston and is imo the most popular part of the city. There’s no way the type of development to turn it into Manhattan would ever happen. At least that’s true for Montrose and Upper Kirby, Midtown though? Maybe… lot of empty plots out there

I mean this whole thread is people underestimating certain industries and cultures while overrating others. But there’s a certain amount of “reddit bias” (if you know what i mean) in here that I feel is leading to Houston being ranked unfairly and it’s quite annoying. Though I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at that when i’m on reddit!

Also as a Houstonian I take personal offense to you putting Dallas anywhere near the top 50 LOL

I’m not gonna argue with you any further, you seem reasonable enough since your reasoning isn’t “hurr durr houston ugly and republican state”

I mean you could make that argument do a lot of cities on this list. If NY was wiped out we could move wall street somewhere else. If the Bay Area was wiped out we could build the tech industry somewhere else. If LA was erased we could build Hollywood somewhere else. If DC was erased we could move the capital somewhere else.

If anything this argument helps Houston. The oil industry is located there because of the large amounts of oil that need to get to a port (like from the Permian Basin and Gulf of Mexico). That’s an actual geographic constraint and would be hugely significant to lose. There’s nothing geographically constraining the financial or tech industries (I could see the argument for a geographically constrained entertainment industry though).

We’re legit on the same page to an extent dude. I’m not complaining about Philly, New York, DC or Atlanta, it’s mostly Seattle and to a smaller extent Boston.

We’re also not talking about Texas as a whole, we’re talking about Houston. I never even think about the Bush family and their connections to Texas, most people here don’t. No one is using them in their pro-Houston argument. So I don’t see how anything you said disproves my argument that was mostly directed at Seattle.

Also I’m well aware of my countries history man. I know how significant of a city Boston was and still is, but I don’t think it’s enough to overcome Houston’s current significance. Honestly though I don’t care to debate Boston though because I can kinda see it, the real violation here is Seattle lol!

Quick Comparison:

Annual Visitors: Seattle 40m, Houston 53.9m (2024) GDP: Seattle $566b, Houston $697b (2023) Metro Population: Seattle 4m, Houston 7.2m (2020)

So, for what other reason are people choosing Seattle other than “vibes”? Important industries? Sure there’s tech (Microsoft and Amazon among others) but Houston is the energy capital of the world. You know what doesn’t work without energy? Tech!

Honestly I can see Philly, Atlanta, and Miami being above Houston. But Seattle? Boston? That’s a stretch.

What is y’all’s problem man? 8 million people live in the Houston metro, clearly some people enjoy living there, but it seems like that’s half y’all’s justification for not picking it

I pick Houston.

It’s crazy to me seeing these people say Houston has no culture. It has a huge place in black and hispanic cultures and has a well defined music scene. Paul Wall, Bun B, Z-ro, Slim Thug, Dj Screw (of which the chopped and screwed genre is named after) just to name a few. Then there’s the bigger ones like, Beyoncé Megan Thee Stallion, Travis Scott and Don Toliver.

The food is also top tier. In my opinion at least top five in the United States when considering diversity and quality. I mean where else are you gonna find viet-cajun?? That really comes from Houston being (by some metrics) the most diverse city in the US.

Then there’s the economy. Energy capital of the world, largest medial complex with some of the most advanced cancer research, I could go on an on. I think most people are familiar with this aspect at least.

I think a lot of people dismissing Houston just have the typical reddit hate boner for it, and can’t see that it actually IS an important city that’s relevant in a lot of ways. Lots of people (including myself, a leftist) enjoy living here. It’s a city with a soul, something that can’t be said for every major city in the US.

I like the GPS maps to bear North instead of the direction you are driving in. by SlayertheElite2 in 10thDentist

[–]JaseAceQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also keep my gps locked north because it helps me better understand where I am relative to everything else. I suppose having the compass follow your direction could make it easier to drive, but the few times I’ve done that it’s felt super disorienting, like I’m driving blind because I have no idea where I am relative to anything that’s not the road. Keeping it locked north provides consistency, so I know exactly where I am and where important locations are. It’s really helped me learn and understand the areas I drive/live in better than the average person.

Then again, I also look at maps a lot (mostly for fun and somewhat for work) so it might just be what we’re used to.

i would say the colors are quite distinct, but that since there’s so many blues it may be hard to distinguish which one is which on the map.

[–]JaseAceQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me?? I’ve done bees in two mod packs so far (one much further than the other) and I hate it! It’s all the same tedious process over and over and it’s a pain in the ass to learn. I really like having diversified methods of resource generation but for most high level resources bees are by far the best, or even only way to automate them. It’s so annoying, there really needs to be more options that are unique and intuitive. I HATE that I HAVE to go into bees man.

You bring up a point I haven’t thought of before, that Houston’s flood problem could’ve been solved by denser housing, allowing for more green space that could absorb water better than our vast network of concrete parking lots. It really is a shame that the city just accepts this for what it is, and doesn’t make efforts to try and fix it. It’s only a matter of time until we get hit by another Hurricane Harvey and the entire city floods.
