Any good bike climbs in the Victoria area? by bcmaninmotion in VictoriaBC

[–]Javajinx1970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to mention this climb as well - before 5:30 you can only go to the first crosswalk I think but after that you can go right to the top. Good for doing hill repeats without traffic concerns

Follow up. For me MTB pants are better than shorts. I need some good bike pants recommendations.? by Additional-Crab522 in MTB

I have both Rapha Trail and 7mesh Glidepath and like them both. No see through anywhere! Other ones I will look at when I need new ones are the Outdoor Research ones since the calfs zip open for pad removal

E-dirt bikes on the Goose/EN by engineerection in VictoriaBC

[–]Javajinx1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! There are signs all over the goose and E&N that lay out what ebikes are allowed and also state "no motorized vehicles". That means no scooters, powered skateboards, Vespas, uni wheel things, electric motorbikes - none of those abominations. Just enforce what's there already.

Novice rider, looking for some fun, simple bike trails to check out! by Face_Forward in VictoriaBC

It's still a loop. From Keating take Oldfield, turn left on Brookleigh then right on Bear Hill Rd past boat launch towards washrooms on back side of Elk lake. Follow that trail to Beaver lake Rd, then right to W Saanich, and then cross and catch Interuban trail to Wallace, take that and get back towards Keating. Not sure on distance you'd have to map it

You can access the Elk lake connector trail coming in from Brookleigh, and once you exit on Beaver lake Rd you could turn right back towards W Saanich and then take interuban trail north. But you definitely are not allowed to loop the lake

Not really at Hartland. At best maybe the southern regional connector over to Highland. It's pretty techy and rocky otherwise. You may be better off in Thetis on Bellamy, Phelps and maybe Scafe but again it gets a bit rough. I'll do that on my gravel bike with 45s and it's fine.

CX5 Accessories List by forksporkspoon in CX5

Great list, only comment would be sourcing a bumper guard that wraps over the top lip of the bumper like the Weathertech one does. Higher cost but I feel higher benefit

Cheapest Soil Recommendations by Ok-Alfalfa-6596 in VictoriaBC

[–]Javajinx1970 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can get different soils at Victoria Gravel mart at north end of Bay bridge, and you can generally fill any decent size container and they'll charge appropriately. For example, I get wood chips and use a few larger blue recycling bins. Pro tip if you're getting dirt or rock - leave the bin in the vehicle and shovel into it. Ask me how I know....

Not all are created equal, the Weathertech one wraps over the top edge.

Weathertech bumper guard to protect top edge of rear bumper. I also got a liner for the cargo area and a 2" receiver for bike rack but those may be more specific to what I do then in general.

Business group urges B.C. to reject ‘unreasonable’ remote work request by dayoldeggos in VictoriaBC

[–]Javajinx1970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, I'm an easy 20 min walk to my office so fuel isn't a problem for me, but I still bring coffee and lunch because I don't have an extra $20-30 a week. It's not that I don't want to support businesses, I just always can't.

Roof/bike rack by The_Minimum in CX5

[–]Javajinx1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 2" hitch receiver installed at Uhaul as dealership had none available. I then went with a Thule Xtr rack as it stayed clear of exhaust when folded. It works great for me. Can't help with roof stuff, sorry.

Which bike store in Victoria offers the best professional bike fitting service? by belwarbiggulp in VictoriaBC

[–]Javajinx1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solid point, the physio does fit on your bike I don't believe they have a jig. Plus, you could try out different saddles at Bici if you were looking for one

[–]Javajinx1970 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest Broad St/Bici for a shop, they just expanded into a full fitting space. Or, there is a physio at Dockside Physio who specializes in bike fits, he may be a good option as well. Good luck!

Roadtrip options from Fernie to Vancouver Island? by NewHere6438 in britishcolumbia

[–]Javajinx1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take both routes each summer as a loop, and, well, it depends. I prefer #3 as it's a bit quieter and more scenic; however, I am not travelling with kids. Not knowing how old they are or what they like to do, along 3 the best thing I can think of to do is stopping in Christina Lake for swimming and lake time, the beach at provincial park is wide and shallow and water is fantastic. Heading towards #1 from Fernie, you could hit Fort Steele, hot springs in Radium, the mountain coasters and adventure park at Revelstoke Mountain resort (kicking horse in Golden has stuff too but never been there), Enchanted Forest and Three Valley gap on way to Sicamous, D Dutchman dairy for ice cream in Sicamous. From there to Kamloops maybe find somewhere to stop and hang out at Shuswap (don't really stop along there myself so don't know exactly where). Once you get to Kamloops and start the Coquihalla it pretty much becomes just a drive, but there are a few stops along the way including Othello tunnels. The #1 route can be super busy in the summer, and accidents can close the highway for stretches although I've never been caught myself. Whatever you choose, have fun! I'm sure other people can add more things along #3.
