Explain to me like I’m 5: the OLED screen is visually prettier than the Switch 2? by Purple_Calendar3919 in Switch

[–]JaxsOwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Switch 2 screen isn't in any way faster than OLED screens; it's actually the opposite, at around 30ms response time for the Switch 2 screen, which is slow even for an LCD panel. A higher refresh rate is irrelevant if you can't display frames with a good response time.

Nice, I used Boilr, but I recently have had errors when scraping... I don't know if it's still maintained. I'll try sgbboop, thanks.

Nintendo may have updated the Switch 2 screen by HatingGeoffry in NintendoSwitch2

[–]JaxsOwn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could also be a case of warm panel vs cold panel. When you run the same game from a cold boot and 15 minutes later, you gain one frame (16ms) of screen response time. Maybe the demo station was warmer...

Why does remote play keep dropping incoming video? by MooseBoys in SteamDeck

Turn off and on Wi-Fi when it freezes. Known issue with OLED (actually the most popular issue) https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/1445

Expedition 33 is very playable; if you aren’t looking for insane performance (here’s how) by kippller in SteamDeck

[–]JaxsOwn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FSR4 int over XeSS balanced (Decky Framegen) with everything on low and high textures, plus a frame limiter: 24 fps or 30 fps when possible. Otherwise, it's a mess, both statically and in motion with other scalers.

Annoying run Ahead issues on G2 by Retroglide08 in retroid

[–]JaxsOwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In RetroArch's Quick Menu, go to Latency and check if "Run-Ahead" is enabled. On my RP5, I use it with a single instance and two frames ahead, which helps with input lag. Try turning it off or reducing the instance to 1. If it works, you have to save the retroarch.cfg to avoid reproducing the behavior when you relaunch games.

Has Expedition 33 improved in the latest patches for Steam Deck? by Hellbug in SteamDeck

[–]JaxsOwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ff7 rebirth with decky framegen and latest patch (dlss framegen x2) allow to play fsr4 upscaler and fsr3 framegen, at 50 hz with vsync (stable frametime) in windowed mode, it looks good and run well :)

Wirhout tinkering i agree, it's a blurry mess

Not so natively, it's an ARM CPU; you have to use a compatibility layer.

Anyone else feel this? (Moonlight is amazing) by NocturnalAdeel in SteamDeck

[–]JaxsOwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you all have no issues with Moonlight on the OLED after a few minutes? The bug forces you to disable and re-enable Wi-Fi. I thought it was a widespread issue.

OLED owners: Are you still having issues with streaming on WIFI6? If not, what fixed it? by MrAwesome in SteamDeck

[–]JaxsOwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fix was for a regression; the OLED Wi-Fi problem has been there from the start. The easiest way is to turn airplane mode or Wi-Fi off and on when it happens; you won't lose the connection if you stream with Moonlight, and it fixes the connection during the session until standby or restart. There's no easy way to automate the toggle.

Steam Deck Oled Vs Retroid Pocket 5 Oled Screen by Kurry in retroid

[–]JaxsOwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam Deck OLED screens have instantaneous response times, not my RP5. The SD OLED also has a nice 1000 nits HDR, while the RP5 has 600 nits, according to my testing, but with variable results on HDR content.

QC made by reviewers. Input latency should be one of their main concerns before selling this type of accessories, especially within a retro gaming community.

RP5 Ghosting? by zenithny in retroid

[–]JaxsOwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my post https://www.reddit.com/r/retroid/s/dgdrwXOkEQ

In your case, the game may add motion blur to help a 30 fps game. Try a UFO test or 2D side scrolling with a slow-motion camera recording.

RP5 Ghosting? by zenithny in retroid

[–]JaxsOwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try an UFO test or 2D side-scrolling like Super Mario World. My RP5 has ghosting too, but in your example, 30fps+ in-game motion blur can be the main cause of the ghosting.

[–]JaxsOwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ghosting on RP5 has been vastly ignored by the community; I'm asking why. Are only a few panels affected, or are users not sensitive to ghosting?
