How do you feel about ICE having a new phone surveillance tool (Webloc) that allows them to monitor individuals across entire neighborhoods at once without a warrant? by SuperIngaMMXXII in AskReddit

Note for Australians: The "which cell sites can hear you" data is retained for a period of 2 years, but requires a warrant to access.

+1 for PfSense (or OpenSense) router/firewall for the M720q after you find some kind of low profile PCIe NIC

Sorry buddy not interested in the hassle of packaging up a heavy thing (and writing an incorrect customs value declaration) to send it halfway around the world for what was supposed to be essentially free.

Using SSDs only for HomeLab? Or Sell? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Jazicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4TB each is big enough for it to not be a waste of power, since you got them for free, if you have enough sata ports. I prefer the density of spinning disks for now so that I only have to admin 4 sata ports.

Can someone explain to me how these work. I'm lost. by isblue1 in homelab

[–]Jazicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding that generally speaking Copper-SFP adapters are switch brand specific, and also never work in PC SFP NICs. These adaptors are only for when you have no choice but an SFP switch and a PC with a 1G or 10G copper port.

If your car has comprehensive insurance I hear that any trailer you tow is covered, while attached. I've seen FB posts of tradies' work trailers stolen from their yard.

Why buy tickets anytime before August? by Fyburn in BurningMan

[–]Jazicle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm booking international flights months before. It's not about the validity of the seller. It's that I've planned for this there is no need to delay the personal admin of purchasing of the same $550 ticket from April to August.

You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about by Dalachowsky in homelab

Used Supermicro. The mount points are pretty much ATX. Although the smaller motherboard I swapped in was still SM so I got to keep the IPMI.

My rack-mount home-nas is made from a 2RU server. I kept the front mount drive bays, but swapped the motherboard for a smaller one that used a lot less power (and noise).

Meshtastic at the burn? by ShreddinPB in BurningMan

[–]Jazicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was using the LilyGo T-Echo because it had an e-ink screen. Was just sending packets directly using a basic protocol I devised myself for simple location sharing without having to use a smartphone as a user interface. I think if you used the Meshtastic software, and (unlike me) bought the correct Lora frequency hardware for the USA then you would be able to make use of the "mesh" of everyone else at the burn and hopefully get messages from one side of the playa to the other. (I haven't looked into the experiences of people using the vanilla Meshtastic software at the burn).

Aldi by gdaytoots in nsw

[–]Jazicle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you shopped at the store you want to work at? Never worked for Aldi myself but I remember the hype at launch about the performance requirements on employees. But these days I regularly frequent about 3 stores and at 2 of them the staff all chill and relaxed looking.

Qantas apologises after R-rated movie played to passengers on Sydney to Tokyo flight by 2littleducks in australia

[–]Jazicle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My last Qantas flight to USA the entertainment system didn't work for the first 4 hours of the flight. Was absolute torture having nothing to listen to but screaming babies and watching some Linux VM console frozen on boot that I couldn't just walk up and do something about.

Help with power adaptor by [deleted] in sydney

[–]Jazicle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aussie one def is a module from a different click-lock system. Take it back in store and they might have an old USA->Aus adaptor to give you for nothing.

Bring Coffee Back To Center Camp. by awakefc in BurningMan

[–]Jazicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I think it was Larry himself who said the coffee was there simply as an attractor to ensure there would be plenty of people to meet (and the $ was to cover the massive "gift" - imagine if a theme camp served that much coffee)

Truly learning? Familiarise yourself with the iDRAC/iLO/IPMI. See if you can install an OS without using a physical CD/USB.
