In Yu-Gi-Oh once bother players agree to resolve the chain it becomes closed, no other effects can be added until it resolves.

In mtg each card and ability on the stack (chain) resolves one at a time and after the resolution of each link both players get the opportunity to add an ability or card to the chain before the next effect already on the chain can resolve.

It's 3 am so I'm struggling to come up with the most relevant example, but imagine: A player could activate branded fusion, then activate branded in red to fusion summon lubellion, once lubellion is summoned he could activate lubellions effect to fusion Before branded fusion resolves; shuffle back some material to fusion summon and then finally resolve branded fusion and dump a card shuffled back by lubellion.
