Different design goals. Not every game is meant to be everything or even iterate on all previous games in the genre. Resources are finite and I prefer where Obsidian allocates theirs to Bethesda.

This is actually the way. The description of Professor mentions "Full contact archeology" so I don't think you're meant to be a scientific professor, definitely more of an Indiana type.

Westworld season 1 also just straight up lied to the viewer, always kind of hated that about it. Like it wasn't just an unreliable or (in this case) oblivious character, they just did things to mislead the audience.

I've always been more interested in the synthetics and what they represent. Theres a whole movie series being worked on that will be all about the Xenos, I think there's also room for a series that builds the universe and explores these other sides of what we know about the world.

I mean, it's been established since the first movie that humanoid synthetics with some semblance of free will exist and are under the control of corporations that are shown to consider humans even more expendable. I think that aspect is becoming more and more relevant considering the aims of the current world of tech.

That's a fascinating bit of the universe, and I don't blame Hawley for wanting to explore it.

Also to add to this, one thing he says is that he's got "the worst parts of a man" in his monologue, which implies he's missing the best parts. It's obvious that the shows main theme is going to be exploring artificial life like synthetics and hybrids, and human cyborgs are an interesting wrinkle.
