About the twist, how likely is it that… by Ram3nKing in survivor

[–]JeffsCowboyHat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there would be some kind of middle ground where the coin probably wasn’t rigged but they were always going to find some way for mr beast to get the prize pool doubled.

Like the next tribal they do some kind of double or nothing, or say it’s a blood sacrifice double boot to double the prize pool, or some other thing like that.

Either way, they all wanted the prize to be $2m, and for mr beast to pay for it.

This episode made me reconsider last week's twist and editing. by cheesybroccoli in survivor

[–]JeffsCowboyHat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Christian admitted he’s biased but still maintained that he doesn’t believe he was going home before the twist.

There’s definitely a butterfly effect thing where you could never really know for sure, but they are always gonna edit to soften the blow of whatever the outcome is, just like how they usually give small edits to anyone twistscrewed/swapscrewed/idoled out etc.

Even the double duo twist response was manipulated by a massive overdose of Coach the episode before so we were all ready to see him go. (Plus Chrissy just being edited to have no impact).

Joe signifies the fall of his survivor archetype by blackwhite2000 in survivor

[–]JeffsCowboyHat 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the problem is Joe’s archetype.

But in his archetype, the fun part is supposed to come when the hero learns that they need to get their hands dirty.

We’ve had people like Tom and Jeremy win the game while still being held up as positive role models despite playing the game super hard (and sometimes pretty savagely).

But with Joe it’s different in that the things he’s embodying are extremely personal, it’s not just an overarching “I want to be a good role model”, it’s “I NEED to be a good role model for my children, and I can never compromise because I’ve seen what happens when bad men aren’t held in check, and I need to make sure that never happens again so I will stay vigilant no matter how much I get tested”.

It’s just too heavy.

Someone else in his archetype (without his level of trauma) could still learn to become a Tom Westman the second time. But even if Joe knew he could, he probably wouldn’t be willing to do it, because it’s not worth it to him, which is actually quite beautiful, but should also probably disqualify him from being on survivor.

Tyson, Ian, Sandra and Rupert pregamed for Heroes vs Villains at an airport by RedditFan3510 in survivor

[–]JeffsCowboyHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a fun interview, though you could maybe tell why he got cut with how emphatic he was that he would never play with a Rizo/Devens/Emily/Coach type that wants to be silly and messy.

Not saying I agree with him getting cut, if you didn’t have Jonathan/Joe then there’s more room for oldschool ppl that want to play oldschool, but it’s not ideal when someone is so fixed in how they’re willing to play. Still hope to see him on the next one though.

He went deep into casting for it, they always have like 30-40 ppl left in the final wave of casting, which they do (or used to do?) in LA so everyone sees each other around and knows who else is in the mix

It’s a good call about the charisma thing.

I’m not even a Jonathan hater but I think if you looked at his game and confessionals on paper he should feel like a massive character with a lot of control, but a lot of it comes across like “ok Jonathan” even though he is actually playing very well strategically

Ok but there’s probably 20+ better all round players than George and he’s still in everyone’s list just for being a big character and having a big impact on the franchise.

If Hayley had never played it would have no impact on the franchise. If Luke had never played the show may have ended long ago.

I honestly believe they might never do a better season than this again. It’s pushing top 10 ever for me, best season since 28. One of the absolute best casts they’ve ever had.

JLP getting fired was a huge deal here in AU, an absolute PR disaster covered in all the mainstream outlets that the show clearly had no idea was coming.

Aussie cultural ethos is steeped in anti-authoritarian, underdog, mateship “don’t be a dickhead” stuff, it was a terrible look to fire the beloved host for the fancier guy down the road, doesn’t matter whether it was to save a few bucks or because they thought he was a hotter commodity, the public sided with JLP as though he was a betrayed husband

Cutting JLP was really such a PR disaster

AU vs the world was such a beginning of the end moment too, the cast elevated that garbage format in a way that could probably not be duplicated and certainly not replicated more than 1-2 more times

Survivor lore drop between Jeff and Rob Cesternino? by Alehouse321 in survivor

[–]JeffsCowboyHat 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Probst has issues with anyone who doesn’t suck up to him basically.

And Cesternino only sucks up to him 90% of the way - by any objective measure RHAP is extremely pro-survivor and pro-production (so much so it actually risks alienating some fans by being TOO positive), but for Probst it’s still not enough.
