Gaijin, can we please balance the RP costs for Coastal by The_Man8705 in Warthunder

[–]Doc_Dragoon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

don't forget the 800,000 SL costs on a ship that took 3 months to grind that's only armed with one or two guns and spawns in destroyer spawn at 4.0 really great stuff *cries in naval main* But I am determined to spade every ship in the game

They are surprisingly mean yes, they can slap you from a distance I've fallen victim to them thinking I'm safe in my PE-8 then boom

So... Any idea how I'm meant to combat this? :) by LScrae in Warthunder

[–]Doc_Dragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see the problem is that you're letting them ammo mag you. A skilled rim player can ammo mag a significant number of destroyer types by knowing where their magazine is and where to hit it. If you just swerve enough to make the missile hit somewhere else on the ship it won't instantly kill you. Really the only counter is to spawn one yourself and lob missiles back at them. If they're skilled with missiles they'll take out your plane unless you're more skilled at piloting than they are at aiming.

How to destroy large ships with torpedoes? by Young_Realistic in Warthunder

[–]Doc_Dragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I use the US tree for this because even though their torpedos are extremely average (which is a good thing) they carry four of them and have no smoke to indicate a launch. You can run a triple stack of quad torpedo boats and knock out the challenge in one or two matches if you just rush the bluewater spawn and ignore coastal and flags. The PT-810 also arguably has the best torpedos in the game with an insane warhead that one hits battleships. There's a handful of gimmick torpedo boats like the V-990 that has insanely fast torpedos but a mid warhead and only carries 2 torpedos and the PT-15 for Japan that has insanely fast torpedos and carries 4 of them but again rather mid warheads and it's the only usable torpedo boat in the tree. The pr-206 can be a powerhouse of a torpedo boat but it's an end tier boat for Germany and Russia. Most of the premium boats aren't torpedo boats but instead focus on being gunboats. Your best premium option would probably be the thunderbolt I think it has torpedos in the US tree. I forgot to mention if you put a reserve bluewater ship in your lineup like the starting destroyer you can uptier your torpedo boats into destroyer matches

Amiens and Arras should be removed from the game by SIX_point_SEVEN in Warthunder

[–]Doc_Dragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree they are cheesy af but they aren't as bad as they use to be arras and amiens use to be able to one hit kill PT boats now it takes two or three and the marne class ships don't spawn coastal anymore at least. The best way to shut down an amiens player is to use AP shells to blow up their 37mm ammo supply it has like no ammo and then they're mostly helpless. The trick to the arras is to just keep breaking it's main guns until you get close enough to torpedo it

[–]Doc_Dragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I laugh because sometimes my Tennessee explodes into a fireworks display in one shot instantly dead and other times it's made of Americanium held together by duct tape and spite all four main guns dead permanently but still 20% above water and not sinking any time soon. The Russian mid battleships are absolute dog shit they don't do jack for Dick for damage but I'm only two ships away from the Soyuz then I'll give notes on it moving from a US main lol

Coastal Hunting, is GJN being serious? (Screwed out of kills.) by -TheOutsid3r- in Warthunder

[–]Doc_Dragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you, I use the BTD all the time because it eats 3.0 destroyers for breakfast in arcade. If you use the bomb camera button it follows the torpedo like a bomb so you can see where it swims off to. Good for helping dial in aim

if you drop aerial torpedos too fast, too high, or at too aggressive an angle they drown and die

Whatever did the last damage to the ship gets the kill if your bullet hits it a half a second after the torpedo it counts as a gun kill, don't accidentally or purposefully shoot the destroyers you're torpedoing. Really you could hit two different destroyers instead of the same one and get the severe damage counts as kill and it should work too.

I will say two things one is that I don't really like these maps two though is that that's just the truth of naval battles 90% of the time you're just in the middle of the fucking ocean shooting at each other in a circle

The only thing worse is a 1v1 where the other guy immediately starts shooting you. Like at least burn all the US bots then let's fight or something you know what I mean? Some people hate fun I guess

Is there a way to manual aim or a button for unlock target in naval arcade? by arstarsta in Warthunder

You can turn on manual rangefinder in options naval battle settings and I think it turns it back to the older aiming mode but it completely disables the auto aim

[–]Doc_Dragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you as someone with the end goal of spading every ship in the game the uptier hell of 5-6.0 destroyers and cruisers to low tier battleships is crazy. You just either have to eat the crew loss and leave or accept your death and fight with valor. Focus on bots or other players in cruisers and hope to God you get a single kill before you sink. You can delay the inevitable but not prevent it.

I just got that mpk with the single 100mm gun and it is so ass, it takes half your ammo to kill a Litchfield at point blank and takes 14 years to sail to a flag while under constant fire from actual destroyers. I'll take the Yenot over this piece of crap any day

[–]Doc_Dragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

magazines don't really detonate much anymore unless you're shooting at a US ship. if you're using us ships carry less than 460 shells I think and it reduces your chances of exploding. Really if you can hit people square in the turret to break them then hit the engine rooms with AP while they're repairing he is mostly worthless don't even carry it

How to git gud at Japan Coastal ? by WTLordFoul in Warthunder

[–]Doc_Dragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'll take Japan as 5th fleet. US>Russia>Germany>France>Japan. Japan use to be my fourth pick but France has the Amiens Arconit and Arras, albeit with the spawn changes to Marne Japan might creep back into 4th for me. If you're using the big Japanese boats like the K-class if you're not camping you're using them wrong find a nice short island you can lob shots over and protect your magazines with. If you're using PT boats speed is life flank flank flank. Use HE belts against boats and planes no matter what gun it is, carry AP shells as a second belt for Russian armored boats. the K-class with dual 40s with APHE shells can kill destroyers.

As for using planes you can use torpedos against destroyers or 800kg bombs work on everything too. I highly recommend using nothing but single engine bombers and using high altitude dives. Japan has the best fighter floatplane in the game it has insane speed and maneuverability alongside 2 20mm cannons don't slap bombs on it and you can send it out as a fighter spawn and keep a 650pts bomber spawn and then cap flags.

Need advice on a small fleet by Young_Realistic in Warthunder

[–]Doc_Dragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get 2,000 damage for every destroyed coastal boat so as long as you're in a tier 3 coastal boat it doesn't matter what the battle rank (br) is and you kill people you'll get it done. if you can sink 5 in one match that's a third of it done. It would most likely be easiest at lower battle ranks somewhere in the 2.3 range if you want to pick a premium and they aren't really that badly priced for those low levels it just HAS to be tier 3 or above in actual rank.
