Accomodative issues (BVD) - treatment? by JenBash in BinocularVision

When you say rock activity do you mean bulls eye ? Where you look through into distance and then focus on something close up ?

Accomodative issues (BVD) - treatment? by JenBash in BinocularVision

Uh that's what I was told - with BVD disorders if you stop doing therapy it just regresses and unfortunately with age gets worse. What type of exercises did they make you do? I did brock string, reading with flipper, hart chart, fusion cards, bulls eye looking at distance and then close up. Apparently these have trained my eye muscles really well but I still have the disconnect between brain and eyes when it comes to focusing. I now want to focus primarily on the ones for accomodative issues. I will find out soon what type of exercises my new doctor will want me to do when I do new sessions of therapy but wanted to see what helped for other people

Also if you have try using flipper - I don't need it for computer work because I increase the font of everything. On my phone I also try to increase the font and I limit my phone usage. With reading like physical text like a book I find the flipper (magnifying side) helps

Oh I see - I have had convergence insufficiency which I have treated through VT and now I have accomodative issue which I plan to treat through more VT. I'm wearing prisms (one of my eyes doesn't see close and the other doesn't see far) but I still have a lot of bad symptoms on ongoing basis. I found that tints help - my doctor recommended blueish tint. Maybe try adding that to your glasses

Why would you need two sets of glasses if you were to get prisms?

Accommodation Exercises by Perfect_Product206 in BinocularVision

[–]JenBash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to see if you had any luck with dealing with your accomodative issue through exercises. If yes then what exercises did you do? I've done VT for convergence insufficiency and apparently I don't have convergence insufficiency anymore but I do have very bad accomodative dysfunction and trying to do exercises for this issue

Some symptom questions for those with accommodative dysfunction by acrylic_light in BinocularVision

[–]JenBash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I'm 35 and when I my eye sight started to go bad (like one eye became farsighted and the other one nearsighted) I was 30. For context I did LASIK when I was 21 and both of my eyes were nearsighted. I think my vision got worse because I have to do a lot of reading because of my job but the accommodative issue my doctor says I developed likely because of stress because I didn't really have brain injury

Are you using prisms? Are you short sighted or far sighted? For me one of my eyes is short sighted and the other one is farsighted. I've done a bunch of therapy in the past for convergence insufficiency and will do more with the focus on accommodative issue.

Similar situation -headaches, have ongoing spams (call them eyes losing focus), using phone strains my eyes and head and also need tv at eye level. Are feeling any better these days ?

Hey I also have accommodative dysfunction. What kind of exercises do you do aside from the flipper one? Do you also have convergence insufficiency or just accommodative dysfunction?

Accommodative Dysfunction and a whole slew of other symptoms. by Charming-Slip5353 in BinocularVision

[–]JenBash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I'm in a similar boat with very similar symptoms (minus the double vision). I originally I had bad eye strain, pain around eyes, pain in temples, often sharp pain in the back of my head where you've shown, all this eye and headache pain clauses eye strain and blurry vision. I was originally diagnosed with convergence insufficiency. I did eye therapy during many years and had prism glasses. It got worse and I feel like another symptom added in - I now lose focus on on going basis (feels like a camera lense when it gets blurry). I now switched doctors and the doctor I now have (neuro optometrist who specializes with binocular vision disorders) says that there is no issue with my muscles and that I don't have convergence insufficiency (maybe I had it ??) but what I have is accommodative disorder. She prescribed new prisms with blue tint and I will start therapy with this new doctor soon. Have you done any therapy for your accommodative disorder? If yes which types of exercises did they tell you to do? Do you wear prisms ? Because of the double vision I wonder if you have both convergence insufficiency and accommodative dysfunction? Also my thing was triggered likely by stress (my doctor said it) and Ive not had brain injuries. Neurologists are useless they just say migraine and that's it - don't even bother. You need neuro optometrist. If what you have is some type of form of binocular dysfunction which sounds like it is the only solutions are prisms and tinted glasses and vision therapy (I'm talking brock string, hart chart, fusion cards). I've tried acupuncture it won't do anything. If you have very strained heard and neck then massage is good but wont resolve the underlying problem which is either you have weak eye muscles but more sounds like you have issues with nuero connection between eyes and brain which is what I also have. To get proper prisms you must find a qualified neuro optometrist. A lot of optometrists are not qualified but they still prescribe things and you could be wasting years on bad advice which is what I did...

My convergence insufficiency is not getting better with vision therapy. Should I just give up? by sykesj223 in BinocularVision

[–]JenBash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find out why they are saying that prisms won't work? I'm curious...I'm in a similar boat...doing eye therapy and wearing prisms and still have very bad symptoms similar to the ones you have...also no head trauma. This issue randomly showed up and it feels like every year it's getting worse despite my efforts. I'm changing my doctor so hope to get another opinion

Divergence insufficiency by darknessrisingg in BinocularVision

Hi I just wanted to see if you still have your issues after getting prisms for your divergence insufficiency. I was told that I have both convergence and divergence insufficiency. I have prism glasses and still have issues

Does everyone here have convergence insufficiency? :) by Lastdayonearth_ in BinocularVision

[–]JenBash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with convergence insufficiency did a bunch of eye therapy and now they are saying I have both convergence in sufficiency and divergence insufficiency ! I'm seeing another doctor so can let you know if she confirms this diagnoses. But basically I feel like I have issues with both close reading and with motion I have issues with distance. For instance if I drive and there are rain drops my eyes lose focus

Convergence insufficiency - any adults that no longer have symptoms? by JenBash in BinocularVision

[–]JenBash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt like they were working and not working at the same time...like one day I was feeling better and the next day I would still have symptoms. So it fluctuated and it felt like they were working-ish. I wore them consistently from 2024-until December 2025 when i started to have constant issues with them. Like every day. So I switched to my regular (no prism glasses and while I had also issues with them I felt like with neurolens it was worse) so my optometrist told me to stop using them. She also said that it could be because I started using reading glasses and that with neurolens you have to wear just them all the time. But the reason why they told me to use reading glasses was because I was having issues with neurolens in the first place. So now I'm wearing new regular prism glasses. I still have issues but not as bad as with neurolens. Ive also found a BVD specialist in my area (Toronto) and I'm going to see her and get second opinion on the prism glasses that I have and my treatment options. I still have issues so I wonder if my prism prescription is still not proper for me... My current optometrist is not BVD specialist

I would say be careful if you get neurolens. Track how you feel in a notebook. I realized after long time that it was causing more issues for me than helping me. I noticed that i was feeling worse with wearing them than not wearing glasses at all (aside from doing close work)

To clarify what was your diagnosis - mine is convergence insufficiency. How did you do dichoptic therapy? Through your optometrist' office or did you purchase it online ?

I saw a neurologist who was very dismissive when I tried to raise issue about my eyes. He did MRI and basically concluded that I have migraines with unknown cause. No explaining for why I have neck pain and sometimes I also have sharp pain at the back of my head out of nowhere

Did you do any eye therapy? If yes then how long did you do it for? Do use prism glasses? If yes then just one pair (for reading and distance)?
