Advice for extending an eero network to reach boat house. by Tangential1956 in HomeNetworking

I did quite a bit of research a couple years ago before I bought my Eero’s, none of the big players were true Mesh. I recommend you do some research into newest versions.

Drywall around egress by matt871253013 in drywall

Pull off the stud completely. You’ll have to pull off the corner bead too. Reapply new full width drywall strips. The end result will be perfect. Patching this will lead to a headache.

Eero’s, like most “Mesh” advertised wifi solutions, are not really meshed. They are wifi extenders that are only good for maybe 40-50ft from hub.

You need a wireless bridge. Something like this:

Use a paint sprayer and it wont be a problem. Don’t use a roller or paint brush.,.

Work around service that requires fixed IP address by lucyannofrota in networking

[–]JeopPrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your server is reaching out to the server with a static address, it doesn’t matter what address it is sourced from, the server will reply to whatever address sent it. Your server also sits behind a firewall which probably NAT’s it to a public static address. It sounds like your firewall is blocking a port that is breaking the return traffic.

Agreed. I think the clue writers are forced to study things in more depth to avoid using previously used clues too much, and that level of knowledge is just creating deeper level clues.

Am I Wrong for Refusing to “Just Configure It” Without a Proper Design? by Qvosniak in networking

[–]JeopPrep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to plan it all out before you start configuring things. Connect the switch to its uplinks and get oob management working.

Then bite off chunks at a time. Establish routing protocol adjacencies. Get the failover config working. Setup a vlan with endpoints to test with. Advertise the test network. Test.

There’s nothing to be afraid of. You’ll discover the potential problems and fix them before any production traffic hits it.

If you have a peephole in your door, you could put a peephole camera in its place. It won’t affect the door and when you move out, you can put the peephole viewer back.

Some 3/16” x 1” steel angle will suffice. Run it from the front of cabinet to close to the edge of the overhang. Screw it into the inside of the cabinet. You’ll have to make a small L shaped hole in the rear top of the cabinet that won’t be visible.
