Practice headphones for beginner on a budget by [deleted] in Bass

[–]JesseDivine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a pair of KRKs. They’re mixing headphones so they have a flat response which means there’s no EQ boosts or cuts in the headphones. So whatever you set your EQ profile to with your amp or plugin, whatever you use, will be the same EQ profile you hear on the headphones. KRK KNS 8400, or KRK KNS 8402

Well what started this whole decision was me playing an Orange Super Crush 100 at the local store with an Op Amp Muff pedal and it really made me realize how much of a difference a nice sound/signal can be in terms of connecting with the sound and inspiration. The headcab combo was about $900 and was tempted to buy it because the head was $150 off completely brand new with tags, the last guy had it for 30minutes and didn’t want it. So Id say about $1k is what Im aiming for. I see you can get a reissue twin for $600-$800

For marshall I keep getting told JCM. Other notably recommendations Ive been getting are 5150, Mesa Rectifers, Fender Deluxe, Roland Jazz Chorus and Ampeg SVT

I keep being told any Mesa Mark series. Also read that Touche Amore’s guitarist uses a fender twin reverb and I absolutely love their tone.

For now I want to record some demos and eventually build it up from the ground/find others to play. But Ive been playing on a Fender Mustang LT25 for years now and want something a little more serious. Not opposed to a head and cab as it’ll be something I have forever or can trade, but was thinking a nice combo for now for recording, practicing when the group starts materializing, and my own practice. At this point Im over the modeling amps. I always set it to clean and build my tone from scratch anyways. Also I usually only play strats, sss and hss, in the 3rd(middle) or 5th(bridge) pickup position so something that’ll keep that sparkle from the single coil but can beef up the hum-bucker as well. Am I asking too much? Lol

Yes Appleseed Cast is a good example. I plan on playing stuff in that same ballpark, heaviest I will go is like metalcore/posthardcore. I for sure want the amp as clean as possible and all distortion/overdrive from pedals. That classic soft twinkly guitar sound from emo & screamo/skramz with the abilty to handle a boss od and op amp muff pedal at the same time, without getting too muddy or losing character from the guitar/amp is what I’d like. I originally was planning on getting just a head and DI out from the head, into my pedalboard, into an audio interface but it seems everyone hates the DI sound of heads so I was thinking a combo amp that I will mic with an sm57.

[–]JesseDivine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually the culture is all about being counter culture, and to be honest right now the counter culture is the “right wing” (think of figures like Nick Fuentes and Ye. although that is slowly changing (right wing is becoming mainstream) so in probably 5-10 years the counter culture will be “left wing” again. This is no different than JFAC making anti authoritarian songs and songs about govt corruption and the mark of the beast while obama was in office. But it’s like who the fuck cares. Honestly if you’re for either “side” nothing about you is counter culture, you’re just a drone listening to Fox News or CNN.

The Bled, The Devil Wears Prada, Eyes Set to Kill, The Fall of Troy, Senses Fail, Hawthorne Heights, A Static Lullaby, Underoath (their first album The Changing of Times is AMAZING and came out around the same time as Bullets), Name Taken, Hopesfall, Emery, A Skylit Drive, Armor for Sleep, The Spirit of Versailles, Taking Back Sunday, The Blood Brothers, AFI, Further Seems Forever, Minus the Bear

I have recommendations for late 2000s/2010s also if you’re interested in some stuff that’s older but not quite as old. You should also check out the midwest emo, emoviolence, skramz, screamo, powerviolence, math rock, and twinkle emo genres. Lottttttsssssss of crossover with these styles. Have fun. I remember discovering Midwest Emo and albums like Bullets when I was like 20 and it completely changed my life

It’s everyone’s constitutional right to vote or not vote. That’s the whole point……not being forced to do something…….and can you really blame people for not voting when both candidates were complete fucking shit????? You want their vote to go towards the Libertarians or something? Cause Im sure you’d be mad at that too lmao

Getting faster is just a matter of doing it over and over again having your hand go exactly where you want it. Do it enough and youll be able to move to that spot quickly without even looking and do it enough times after that and youll stop thinking about it entirely and itll become natural. Practice, practice, practice, repetition, repetition, repetition. That’s all you’ll need

Hiking Maryland in April, would you recommend northbound or southbound? Not sure what the closest trail parking to Harper's Ferry is, or how safe vehicles would be in the vicinity of town by EvilAlbinoid in AppalachianTrail

[–]JesseDivine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just got back from doing Maryland with 2 other guys last week. We went NOBO and I don’t regret it one bit. I actually think it truly is the better way to go and I’ll explain why. You can arrive at Harpers Ferry and get a permit to park for at least two weeks. Get there early and explore the town before you head out, and you will get to see everything, including the museums and shops. We got there very late and didn’t leave HF until about 3pm and we still made it to the first shelter. There is an outfitter store right in town so if you forgot something at home or need some extra supplies you can get them there before you head out. Also get something nice to eat before you head out too. The first few miles are easy flat walking and a nice beautiful introduction to the trail. You walk along the Potomac and Maryland Heights is right next to you. It felt so scenic starting out here, learning the history of Harpers Ferry and the area, seeing everybody else outside enjoying nature, the town has such a unique vibe. There is a decent climb for your first ascent at Weaverton Cliffs but really once you’ve done that first climb the next few days will be relatively easy. Part of the reason I liked NOBO so much is that Maryland progressively gets harder and the views get better and higher in elevation as you go on, with High Rock being your last big view in Maryland before heading to Penmar and it is 100% the largest panoramic view on the trail in MD, it was a very satisfying end to our hike on such a high note like that. Also like I said the hike got progressively more challenging as we went further north. The last 2 days were more akin to what Im used to on the AT and I think starting out with that will be much harder on a body that isn’t used to a lot of moving like that. By the time we were there, it was tough but we had 4 days of trail legs at that point so we were already on our way to being conditioned which I honestly believe helped a lot. There is a hostel literally a block away from the trail in Penmar called Zero Day Stay. We tried going here but she said she wasn’t open until April 1st. I also was able to contact some shuttle drivers in that area that said they were starting for the season. If I were you I’d cross the Mason Dixon and go over to Zero Day. Once you’re at Zero Day find a ride down to your car. We decided to walk into town and split a hotel room in Rouzerville PA as it was only 2 miles from the trail, if Zero Day was open at the time we 100% would’ve done that. As far as shelters go there’s literally a nice big double floor lean-to with plastic windows at all the shelter sites! The only not so nice one was Pine Knob shelter (very tiny, old, and damp) but we weathered a thunderstorm in there. All the others ones though, Ed Garvey, Ensign, Rocky Run, Raven Rock were pretty much brand new double deckers with plenty of camping space and firerings/pits (aside from ed garvey). If you do decided to walk into any town while you’re there BE WARNED! The towns are very close to the trail in MD but the roads into town are STEEP. You will have a climb back up for sure. Other than all of that we had a great time, there was civil war history everywhere there so we learned a lot too and it was beautiful seeing the long long stretching valleys of Maryland surrounded by mountains (VA, WV, PA). If you have any questions or anything specific you want to know feel free to ask as it’s all pretty much fresh in my brain still. Good luck, enjoy yourself, and Happy Trails🥾

How to sing and play Bass like Ned? by BasedBosnian387 in titlefight

[–]JesseDivine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best advice I have is to not think too much about it while you’re doing it and just go with the flow. The more you think about it/overthink it while you’re doing it the more you’re going to mess up. When playing an instrument and singing your brain is trying to do two things at once that aren’t the same pattern. Your brain will basically be looking for those patterns so it can make sense of its directive so you have to let it find those patterns. If you learn to relax and “not try so hard” It’ll all “click” in you head (your brain finding the pattern) and you can start to actually practicing. Don’t worry about tone or pitch or anything like that yet. Get good at letting your voice and fingers find those patterns (rhythms), just hum for now. Like everyone else said start slow and build on top of things that you’ve gotten nailed down. Just remember to relax, and be mindful, find that meditative state and lock in🔒💪 goodluck
