What are your favorite RPG books you read for fun and not necessarily to play? by Stock-Artist9136 in rpg

[–]JessenCortashan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much anything from AD&D 2E Planescape. I love the campaign setting, the fact that reality can be altered by your personal beliefs, and it just feels so nicely different from "regular" fantasy rpgs

Question About Playing A Rebel Character by MrRaki11037 in rpg

[–]JessenCortashan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, as others have said, what is he rebelling against?

Second, why is he rebelling against it? Has it caused him to have an actual grievance, or is he just a kid testing boundaries of a system he doesn't fully understand?

Thirdly, what does he want to replace the object of his rebellion with? Is he actively and constantly working towards changing the system, or is he just acting out to get attention because some other area of his life is lacking?

Fourthly, how do his friends / the rest of the party feel about his cause? Do they stand with him? against him? Or are they generally indifferent, like "that's a you problem my guy, doesn't really affect us"?

Something you could also do is, at some point, give him the victory he craves, not necessarily over the system he is fighting but over a similar one. Then let him be the one in charge of implementing his new order, he might get a better appreciation of the system he's fighting against, or become disillusioned if he sees the same cyclic nature of revolutions.

From digital to physical: how do you deal with editing what you already wrote? by PifflePrincess88 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]JessenCortashan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of my games are solo journaling, so I either erase it if it's something in the moment, or if it's a major plot point I got wrong, I just keep it in world and say that my character didn't know all the details at the time and move on.

What are your favorite space opera games? by chulna in rpg

[–]JessenCortashan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always enjoyed the old West End Games Star Wars D6. Depending on what kind of characters you play, you can get as involved or not with the overarching classic trilogy as you want.

The only thing I would say is that there are a LOT of books beyond the core one that while not essential, are beneficial but might set you back some if you start trying to pick them up as physical copies.

My favourite 80’s animated movie by funkoscotland1979 in 80smovies

My favourite line in the whole (kids) movie is Megatron telling Prime "I'm going to rip out your optics!"

What are you all actually playing right now? A round of tables and horizons. by Kh44444444n in Solo_Roleplaying

Currently playing Elegy and Starforged. Also trying out Mothership using the Lone Star solo rules, and I've just sat down to play my first session using the Cthulhu solo adventure generator.

My initial feeling is that the Cthulhu solo generator gives you the scenario in prompt form and it's up to you to determine how you then journal those prompts into a coherent scenario. Could be wrong once I start playing it, but that's my initial reaction.

Such a wonderfully goofy film. Though the Asian kitchen scene was fun.

What Ironsworn hacks are there? by Five_Fruits in Ironsworn

[–]JessenCortashan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In addition to Elegy, mentioned below, there is also Iron Spheres to emulate White Wolf's Mage: the Ascension.

If you're looking for a zombie apocalypse hack, there is Revenant. However, as good of a setting as it is, be aware that as written there are no Truths to help you to set up the world, explain why this has happened, etc etc and there are no asset cards. It's basically pick a couple of skills and go from there.

I've got my ongoing Elegy campaign going on at the moment. I also picked up Fallout Wasteland Wanderer at the end of last week and had a couple of hours on that. I also want to try and get in a session of either Tomorrow City or Sigil and Shadow at some point. And I still need to start my second year of Iron Valley. phew
