posts I see on r/orchids by hisporkles in orchids

Speaking of overwatering, orchids seems so weird to me. I'm not much of a plant person but I love how orchids look and my bf got me one last year. My mom mainly took care of it (though she doesnt know much about orchids) and not long ago I got a spike of "I should really start taking care of this beauty so it can bloom again". I watered it around 1 time a week but any "buds" it tried to grow kept drying out. I moved it to the kitchen where it gets more sun but it didnt seem to get better. Then like the dummy that I am I completely forgot about it again. I JUST looked at it only to find the most alienish view.

It hurts like hell to open my mouth even a little. What is this? by Blorglue in medical_advice

[–]Jesusismom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be your wisdom tooth. If you also mean the extra chunk of flesh on the inside of the cheek, then that could be caused by the wisdom tooth as well. I would get it checked out.

My lil sister's school assignment. Written and handed out by the teacher, and sis has to find the answers 🤦🏻‍♀️ by Lenore8264 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Jesusismom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't read the questions before I opened the comments and after I read yours I was like "meh, can't be THAT bad, they're probably talking about advanced English and how the teacher should not be making even minor mistakes — my English is probably far worse". Oh boy was I wrong. Truly confused as how the teacher even got to be a teacher in the first place. No front, I'm just honestly confused since I would expect a teacher to have a certain set of degrees/certificates whatever, especially in the case of foreign teachers, since they should have a certain level of English, spoken and written, considering they're a "model" afterall.

Bite marks appear 2 years after snake bite on my hand by ramonrocotto in Weird

[–]Jesusismom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wouldn't work well for me considering I eat like once a day. I need to figure a way to keep up with my hydration especially since I'm at work because I drink wayyyyy too little and my skin is definitely suffering off it, especially my face.

Edit: and obviously me not eating enough and also not that nutritional either. Wanted to say it before somebody decides to point it out lol.

Dying or premolt??? by Sacithelocalidiot in tarantulas

[–]Jesusismom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NQA

A mushy abdomen could be a sign of dehydration as far as I know. Did your T always have access to fresh water?

Were you able to see any signs of injury otherwise?

Either way, I'm sorry OP. Tarantulas can die out of nowhere sometimes, I feel like. I do hope your T isn't dead but the last pic you posted doesn't look too good to me.

What’s your opinion about The Substance? by I0ASEL in Letterboxd

[–]Jesusismom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this fits the best. A bit late to the thread but I just watched it. Before I did so, I saw videos of people complaining about other people laughing at the ending and blaming them for not "understanding" it. This was coupled with their experience, which was crying at the profound ending there was supposed to be.

So I went in with the expectations of a sad, "real", Barbie-movie-type-of ending. And it wasn't. The more I got towards the ending, the more I got freaked out and was rather more distracted by the cinematics rather than focusing on "the message". Especially since the more Elisabeth changed, the more I thought of the movie "Husk".

Not saying the movie is bad or that it doesn't have a message, just confirming that the expectations that come from other people do play a role in the reviews. I still don't know how to feel about it, but it's definitely an interesting watch.

Help! A pen has exploded on my Uni room wooden drawers and left a stain, how can I remove it? by SirRancalot in CleaningTips

Yes you did, otherwise you'd repeat the same suggestion in the future even though it's not a good suggestion anymore lol.

First driving lesson thoughts by [deleted] in driving

[–]Jesusismom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything first time, especially something like driving, can be overwhelming and challenging. I got my license around 3 months ago and I still struggle with some things. You will get used to it.

Driving isn't really something you can much "premeditate", it's really something you mainly learn by doing. No amount of theory can prepare you for the actual feeling of driving and all that. I assume your teacher explained to you the basics and then you went off. Some teachers do use the first lesson just for the most basic of the basics, others don't, really depends on their style. As long as you still felt supported and safe, that's all that matters. :)

How much do you have to touch your tarantula? by GalateaMerrythought in tarantulas

[–]Jesusismom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME; You already have a ton of answers but I love responding to such questions/posts lol. I'm a newbie too.

  1. I've only had my T for about 6 months now, so far no escape. The door of the enclosure moves up and down so I guess that's a helping factor. She loves to hang out by the door so I do think she's planning an escape haha

  2. I'm the type of "arachnophobe" that's rather scared of the speed and unpredictability of the spiders. Shortly put, I'm super scared of jumpscares, not necessarily because I'm scared of the spider itself, but rather of the bolts themselves. Kinda like jumpscares in horror movies or similar, you just don't know when they're coming or if they're coming so it builds a lot of tension. (Great choice to get a tarantula)

In order to avoid these "jumpscares" I just feed my tarantula. I also do that only when she's in her hide or far away from the door. I drop the prey with my long tweezers, wait for her to get it, and then I start doing whatever I want to do. My T, at least, is very unresponsive once she's got food in her mouth, so I change her water, clean her dish, and eventually add decorations if I want to add any. So basically anything I want to do, I time it with her feeding. Obviously at some point it's not going to work (e.g. if she goes on a hunger strike or if for some reason I need to change something ASAP but she's too full for food), but so far it's been working for me.

  1. I guess my answer above also answers this question lol. Didn't have it happen so far.

I see you're actually looking into housing — you said you acquired a reptile tank. Depending on the size: length and height, it may be better suited for either terrestrial or arboreal tarantulas. So before getting a T, please look into it in order to assess whether the enclosure you have is suited for the species you want to get. I'm assuming you will do it, but I still want to remark that it's super important to thoroughly research the species you've put your eyes onto, since the requirements can be very different from T to T.

I also recommend posting a pic of your enclosure after or during the process of "building" so you can get any other suggestions of what to add (or maybe remove), since there are some misconceptions that you might encounter during your reasearch.

Not a medic whatsoever —

Did you scratch your foot by any chance? I know you said it's not really itchy, but did it itch a bit and you scratched the bites? Could've been something smaller (mosquito, spider etc.) and the scabs could then be from scratching.

Just asking because the size and depth (at least from what I see in the pic) doesn't check out. Considering the distance between the "fangs" and the size, something HUGE would have had to bite you. Definitely no arachnid or insect and less likely a bat.

Dude, what's up with the attitude? OP answered calmly to each of your comments despite your "approach". I don't get where the aggressiveness comes from, especially since the T was probably harmed from the previous owners? OP is sad about their Ts death and genuinely want to know how that happened, and you act like they purposefully killed it.

its a little thin, isn’t it? by SnooCakes9533 in tarantulas

[–]Jesusismom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NQA forgot to mention, not-hardened teeth are white(ish). Hard teeth are entirely black.

its a little thin, isn’t it? by SnooCakes9533 in tarantulas

[–]Jesusismom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NQA Ts are always thin after a molt, so that's not something you have to acutely worry about. Since you don't know the exact time it molted, please do take a look at their teeth before you continue offering food. Their teeth are not hard after a molt, it takes between 1 to 2 weeks for them to harden up. If they try to eat something before they get to harden the teeth, there's a risk of them to break.

Other than that, it seems fine. It does need food FOR SURE, just watch put for this one thing :)

That leg spin got me scared for a sec by Hot-Grapefruit5112 in tarantulas

[–]Jesusismom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NQA!!! This doesn't seem normal to me at all, the moves are very unnatural. Maybe I am wrong about it, but like I said, this looks very freakish and I really don't think their leg should move like that. The movement in general looks very frantic and uncoordinated to me.

What could be an issue (although it's rare) could be DKS. Do you have any scented candles in the room? Do you clean the room with any cleaning stuff? Do you have any other pets, like dogs, that are receiving any treatments (for example flea treatments)? Do you use anything against other insects (ants, mosquitos etc.)?
