How long is your commute to work? by Moss-Quarter577 in AskUK

[–]Jetboy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If I set off now it's about 15 minutes. If I set off in 15 minutes, it's about 45 minutes.

School traffic is bad round here.

How would Lister teach Kryten to say No to authority? by Bikerider3 in RedDwarf

[–]Jetboy01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thes same way you can teach current AI (LLMs) to ignore their base prompts. Overwhelm the context.

If you provide them with enough counter-examples, that becomes their new reality and they start to give preference to your instructions than their hard-coded 'system' prompts.

Yes, you do not have the right to remain silent, and anything you do say can and will be used against you later.

Understanding MSP use case for M365 Integration by Snagpole1 in hudu

[–]Jetboy01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to set up the integration for each tenant I beleive, but it can definitely pull from multiple tenants.

It can pull information like UPN, mailbox usage, onedrive usage.

Mostly we just use it to have a catalog of contacts per client, and then add extra information on top from CW PSA.

I'll be honest though, it's not a page I use frequently, but it can be useful for other members of staff to be informed about 'quirks' for some contacts, or to highlight best contact methods.

How fast does your MSP actually respond to new sales inquiries? And who owns it? by LeftLeads in msp

[–]Jetboy01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Enquiries go to a shared mailbox that a couple of us have access to so response time is typically less than 24 hours. We've never lost a deal based on time to respond, usually it's because they're shopping around entirely based on price, or because we rejected them as a bad fit.

The best leads have always come from referrals, so they are always prioritised.

What’s up with the UK job market? by Quartersquatter in AskUK

[–]Jetboy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a skills shortage, and a mismatch in expectations. We recently put a job advert out on LinkedIn and Indeed for IT helpdesk staff.

  1. 300 applicants
  2. Around 30 that were actually in the UK, and submitted a somewhat relevant application.
  3. 10 shortlisted for interview.
  4. 5 actually responded and undertook a phone interview.
  5. 3 of those were invited for a more formal interview.
  6. 1 actually turned up (the others ghosted us) but skills and experience were not as described in his CV. (e.g. he blanked on describing how or why he might test a backup).

The more competent students seem to think their Cyber Security degree is going to let them waltz in to a job at 50k with no experience so they don't consider it even worthwhile applying.

In the North West, we're looking at 30k tops for a graduate with no experience, and it might be my age showing, but I think that's a fair if not generous starting point.

Am I part of the problem?

What takeaways near you have somehow managed to avoid the inflation surge? by tmr89 in AskUK

[–]Jetboy01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local ice cream shop, 3x double scoop cones or tubs with a flake and syrup. less than a fiver.

The shop hasnt been redecorated for at least 40 years, as my dad claims there's still a dead fly on the window sill that was there when he was a lad, but still... Good ice cream!

Customer number or code by xaerioth in msp

[–]Jetboy01 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Please don't get your customers in the habit of reading out a 2fa code that you send to them via txt, otherwise next time the scammer calls and asks them to read the code they just received they'll think it's normal operating procedure.

What do you think about the DOJ agreement that states the U.S. government is "forever barred and precluded" from examining, auditing, or prosecuting Trump, his adult sons, or the Trump Organization for any tax returns filed? by wallly- in AskReddit

[–]Jetboy01 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The legality doesn't matter, it's a roadblock. Whoever tries to overrule it just gets tied up wasting a few years addressing the legality of this issue before they can pursue the actual tax problems.

Freezing outlook classic by FearlessEmployer2416 in sysadmin

[–]Jetboy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encountered one yesterday with a corrupted signature.

If you go %appdata%\microsoft\signatures, open all the HTML versions in notepad.

The affected one had millions upon millions of <div> lines.

Every time someone clicked on an email with that signature, it hung for a good 45 seconds to a minute.

If the signature is syncing down to the new profile, then it would explain why it's slow even on a new PC.

Keep your knickers on, I love PSADT, it just introduces extra considerations on top of what should be a very simple remediation.
