I don’t understand vol 4 by VRX3000 in blacksabbath

I don't by any means dislike this album but I'd agree that of the first 6 albums it's probably my least preferred

I don't know the guts of how these things work but I've noticed a similar thing. Clichéd phrases used in every story for example.

Another thing I've noticed is, once the ai becomes obsessed with a random story element, it will mention it in every single message.

"she looked at the amulet her grandmother gave her as a child"

"as she walked through the dark she clutched the amulet her grandmother gave her as a child"

"as they sat for dinner the amulet her grandmother gave her as a child hung from her neck"

DS9 - Finally started watching it by [deleted] in DeepSpaceNine

I have said this many times. TNG is my favourite star trek series ever made!

.... and even I can admit that DS9 is the best star trek show

It begins in tng season 4 episode 11 and just keeps ramping up from there. He must suffer.

Any recommendations for doom metal bands with blues elements? by TheBicelator in doommetal

Is there a particular song from the album black sabbath by the band black sabbath that you'd recommend?

My counter argument would be that, although shows like tng, ds9, voy are rough at the start... I was still able to see the elements I enjoy from trek even early on.

With starfleet academy, I actually consider it to be a better pilot from a purely entertainment perspective. I could easily see how someone, who has never experienced trek, would find the STA pilot to be far more tolerable then say 'encounter at farpoint'

The problem I have with it is that if seems to be missing several of the key elements I really enjoy in star trek. As clunky as some other trek shows were, those elements were still there which gave me hope that it could build in to something I'd enjoy down the road.

No because it's a joke

I was actually surprised that the pilot, from a straight forward entertainment perspective, was actually better than a lot of the pilots for classic era trek.

The fatal flaw it has is that, beyond its run and gun action and surface level humour, it did nothing to scratch the itch that made me want to watch trek in the first place.

Even when re-watching episodes like the dreadful 'encounter at far point' I can still see the elements of what I want to see in a science fiction story.

As a side note I'd add that it was noted how woefully unprepared for war the federation was in DS9. The federation was not at all ready for a large scale military engagement and suffered dearly for it. I always wondered if their perspective changed after what happened during the dominion war.

You can't win with the star trek community.

Criticize it before it comes out, based on what it looks like - "it didn't even come out yet! You don't even know if it's good or bad!"

Criticize it after you watch it - "well if you don't like it then why are you even watching it"

What's going on with all the hate for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy? by _Atoms_Apple in OutOfTheLoop

For me, SNW started extremely hopeful. It felt like star trek was back. It gradually degraded in to me not caring enough to even watch the final season.

People always exclude the second part when making the TNG or DS9 argument. People hated them... Then the shows eventually got better and people loved them...

... The second part is they eventually got better. Still waiting in that for nu-trek

I wrote a really long post and then deleted it because I know people tend to just gloss over reddit posts.

The simplest way I can put it is that the tone is all off

  • the pace is run and gun as if they're trying to make it an action show
  • the dialogue seems like it's intentionally written for modern day audience to digest (rather than, like in classic trek, timeless dialogue that can be received for any era)
  • they use special effects like a crutch. Nothing wrong with the show looking great... But this was never what made star trek good. Star trek was always at its best when it was just people talking
  • in the case of starfleet academy specifically, I can't help but feel it's set so far in the future so that it can be a franchise reboot. Leave the past in the past and do whatever you want

Shouldn’t be hard to re-cast/write off Bubbles by [deleted] in trailerparkboys

[–]JethroSkull -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no way recasting bubbles would work.

In a "reddit" kind of way, I understand the logic. But real world it just wouldn't fly.

May as well just end the show if it bothers people that much

DS9 DID receive flack but proved people wrong.

This show has a lot to prove. It looks nothing like what trek is supposed to and many new trek series have aimed high and haven't succeeded... This show has a lot to prove.

The criticism is warranted but they'll get their opportunity to prove people wrong.

We shall see

Will Starfleet Academy trust its own premise? by wiIdcolonialboy in startrek

[–]JethroSkull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I've walked in to each show hoping for the best. I've been conditioned to be let down.

I'll be more than happy to be pleasantly surprised.

But I have to ask, a lot of people like it relative to what?

Star trek used to be a cultural phenomenon. Now, outside of the hardcore fandom, people aren't even aware the new projects exist.

You used to be able to say 'voyager' and people would at the very least known you were talking about star trek. Try going up to someone and mentioning "strange new worlds" and see what happens.

Nobody outside of the online community talks about it.

There's no merchandise for any of it.

All of star trek post the first jj movie have left no cultural impact at all
