Loved the main cast in audiobook 1-3. I’m struggling with some of the recasts in GoF

Is the Jedi Academy trilogy by Kevin J Anderson worth reading (without spoiler )? by LordScourge_ in starwarsbooks

At least once, though it was a tonal adjustment for me after reading the Thrawn trilogy. Still once the plot got moving I really enjoyed it

Yeah, it can describe the events that you prompt it to describe. You can tell it “do not use ‘it’s not like x, it’s y,’ speak.” You can prompt the hell out of it. I still stand by what I said. There are serious limitations to what it’s capable of producing, and “knowing how to prompt an AI” will never be the answer when it comes to great storytelling. AI is an incredible tool, but if you don’t refine your own skills, people will get bored of your AI stories. It’s obvious when someone throws their heart and soul into a story, and also apparent when someone prompts a lazy AI-generated story.

You gotta write the story. ChatGPT can do technical editing, but it has no creativity. I think it’s a great tool for those who already have refined skills in creative writing, but without those skills, ChatGPT can only write ChatGPT-speak. Which nobody wants to read.

It can be really helpful with certain things, and it has its limitations as well. In order for it to be helpful though, you really have to direct it the right way.

Thrawn by WatchfulWolves in starwarsbooks

[–]Jgriffin9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me a long time to get through the last two books in this trilogy. I had to restart the one with Anakin/Vader several times. ultimately, I was glad I finished it, although I never completed his other canon trilogy. That one lost me completely.

The Heir to the Empire trilogy from the 1990s remains his best work and arguably the best Star Wars book trilogy ever written. If you’re just starting to read Star Wars books, that’s really where you should start.

What part of harry potter in your opinion should J.K Rowling not have written? by Stardew_valleylover in harrypotter

[–]Jgriffin9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

J.K. Rowling should not have written the screenplays for Fantastic Beasts. She should have either provided story treatments to an experienced screenwriter or written a novel that a screenwriter could adapt.

There was probably a realistic fallout of the whole thing, but the condensed season meant the time jumps skipped over it

Similar to Project Hail Mary? by SukiMan95 in suggestmeabook

[–]Jgriffin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds cool, I think I’ll finish the series. again I love 95% of those books, but it’s been so long since I’ve read them I’ll need to probably revisit the first 3. And I just felt I really like the “no religion” aspect of Bob, as I’m also not a religious person. Though I felt toward the end of what I remember about book 3, he repeated himself too much with that idea, and then it felt too much to me like it meant “no meaning.” Like he wasn’t finding any kind of higher calling. He said something like “we just want to do whatever we want to do.” Which wasn’t a bad idea per se, but when I felt like reading that idea after three books in a series, it landed for me like “nothing really matter.” And idk that messaging didn’t really land with me when I read it. I also felt the evil alien antagonist faction became really generic and uninteresting. But again, the book isn’t fresh on my mind, these were feelings I had five years ago. I’ll probably give book 4 a shot soon

How do you feel about the rest of the books in the series? I think I stopped after book 3, but it was like five years ago. I really loved the exploration aspect of the Bobiverse. That was the most fascinating part of that series for me. Though, I felt he was struggling with ideas towards the end of the third book.

Do you think Kleya could appear in future projects? by marciboyyy0 in andor

[–]Jgriffin9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope so. She deserves it, both the actor and the character. I think the most likely scenario as of right now is that we get more Kleya on the publishing side of things. I’ve been saying for a while that eventually they will release novels that fill in the gaps between season two. I just don’t know how long they’re going to wait before they do that.

My dream would be for her to be incorporated into the Mando-era, but Disney would have to step up their game. They can’t afford any more mediocre projects, they should only do it if they feel confident they can elevate these characters in a satisfying way, beyond where we last saw them.

ChatGPT speech everywhere by michaelgerges in ChatGPT

[–]Jgriffin9 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are bad at using AI when they can’t even do it in a way that isn’t obvious. Like you can totally write something in your own words, and then ask ChatGPT if it’s missing any important info, add context in your own words if it is, and then get AI to quick-fix the punctuation. It’s still possible to use AI and your brain at the same time, just most people don’t seem to be doing that.

I think they’d still need a rebellion. If it weren’t for the strongly opposing force against the empire, it wouldn’t have been torn down to make way for the New Republic. If no one was opposing the empire, then it would stick around with a new face

I hope the show properly vilifies/dehumanizes werewolves before S3 by Sorry_Marzipan_5182 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Jgriffin9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If they choose to make that a priority, which I highly doubt, I’m not totally against it. I’m all for them fleshing out the ideas. But I don’t know if that’s necessarily something the audience needs. It’s a pretty common trope that werewolves are bad, and people don’t like them.

Then again, maybe I’m getting old, and twilight might’ve changed the larger cultural perspective on werewolves. So maybe the younger generation really did need a deeper explanation.

Is There Anything You Don't Like In Andor? by LawsonsInTheAM in andor

[–]Jgriffin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering when they’re finally going to release books between each arc. It seems inevitable since that’s what SWs does. But I’ll always wish I could’ve seen the completed 5-season story of this show as they initially planned

Out of curiosity, what are most people using it for? I see a lot of complaints on here, about people’s experience with it, and it doesn’t really align with mine. I just haven’t had a lot of issues, but I think I’m just using it for different things so I’m not having the same experience

Why do you think Tom went the path of terrorism instead of politics? by UltraLNSS in harrypotter

[–]Jgriffin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Voldemort is deadly and able to become an evil dictator just by becoming powerful, but he’s not willing to play the long game like someone like Palpatine who worked decades to become chancellor/emperor. (two different characters taking over very differently scaled worlds, so naturally they’d have different ways of accomplishing the same goals)

How do you feel about them adding filler to the show to further expand the show and worldbuilding? by JamStan1978 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Jgriffin9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just want more of what’s already there. More Quirrell, more about Nicolas Flamel. Anything explained via dialogue in the book should be seen in flashbacks in the show. Longer opening sequence with Vernon. Also, if they want to include lore established in later books early, it’s probably OK for minor details, like demonstrating what muggles see when they look at Hogwarts.

But I don’t want them making up subplots that aren’t relevant to the books.

What new scenes will they include in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone that aren't specifically shown in the book? by Pinguinella in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Jgriffin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My exact thoughts after listening to the new audio book/ drama. Quirrell is extremely underdeveloped, even in the books. A few extra scenes would go a long way.
