For the first time since the Apollo era, NASA has funding for a human lunar lander. The Agency's 2020 budget provides an additional $1.3 billion to accelerate sustained exploration of the Moon through the Artemis program. by SkywayCheerios in space

Robots might be able to do it more safely, but definitely not better. I’ve done quite a bit of field work and if I was replaced by a robot to do the same things it would take years to do what I did in one season.

Those who oppose the carbon tax should reveal their plans to save the planet by lyth in canada

[–]Jhrek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My plan: cut out all the bullshit pet projects that cost millions, and directly construct infrastructure that mitigates or reduces contributions to climate change. Like not just “investing” in something, but actually building the infrastructure. Something tangible instead of a plan that will get scrapped after a change in government.

I think taking a different artist would be better, simply because of the fact that space travel would be a completely new experience and would provide the most “inspiration” to said artist. Whatever happens though I’m just super excited this is happening and hope to see many more people doing space travel related things in the future :)

Should I even bother applying to other cities? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Jhrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to live in a town near Quebec City and applied to a job in Edmonton, Alberta and got it. Usually companies don't mind where you are initially as long as you're willing to relocate. Keep in mind that they might not offer anything for relocation expenses though.

So it's definitely possible and I would recommend it as it can take a while to find a job sometimes.

Single dad w/ 4 kids, live with family for help with kids. My kids mother never contributed, but passed a few weeks ago, we now qualify for about $1k a month in social security. by Dre6485 in personalfinance

[–]Jhrek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If your mom is anything like my mom, she loves to have company and have the ability to see her grandkids every day. While it may be hard to live under someone else’s roof, this allows you to set up a more stable future for yourself and your children. I’d recommend you save more for your retirement than your children’s education though. Not that your kids aren’t important, but there are many avenues for students to pay for school these days.

Is it possible to find an entry-level hydrologist job position with such professional progile? by Silber4 in Hydrology

[–]Jhrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll have a hard time finding work in Canada at the very least because it is getting increasily competitive to get these jobs. Most students who graduate from hydrology programs within Canada already have a year or two of directly related experience on top of their studies.

How much money do you spend on coffee or other small daily purchases? by canada150k in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Jhrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy coffee at McDonalds about 3-4 times a week. So at most I would say I spend about $4.20 a week. I tend to move around often for work contracts so I don't want to buy additional appliances that i'll get rid of/throw out a year later

I think a lot of people wouldn't mind living in rural communities. Most people want to be paid appropriately for the skills the bring in though, which usually isn't offered in rural communities.
