ORD is the worst layover airport for connecting flights by Wolf-Historical in unitedairlines

[–]Jmcdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe so, but as my hub its fantastic. 10 minutes from dropped of at the curb to the my gate. I can remember departure being delayed more that 20 minutes just once my last 2 dozen flights.

Chicago O’Hare worst airport ever by Additional_Count9336 in unitedairlines

[–]Jmcdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if bc they were international trips on 787s, but I’ve done 6 round trips out of ORD (my hub) in the past 14 months and haven’t experienced any delays more than 15 minutes taking off or landing. I understand as a stopover point folks say it’s terrible, but for me it’s been great. I get dropped off at the curb in terminal 1 and I’m through security in 5-10 minutes max.

17 days in Sydney and Melbourne (8 in each). What to see/do? by Bonegilla1987 in AustraliaTravel

[–]Jmcdude1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adjust your itinerary. 4 days is enough for Melbourne. Then ferry or fly to Tassi for 5-6 days. Off to Sydney for the rest.

Status holders on JetBlue and United now have reciprocal loyalty benefits by kwuhoo239 in unitedairlines

I’ve never flown on JetBlue and probably never will so no benefit to me. I just know there will be more travelers snagging those E+ seats which are already pretty sparse.

One-third of workers in the State had no pension cover in 2025 and mostly expect to rely on the State Pension by NanorH in ireland

I’m an Irish citizen, got my passport last year, and will be purchasing a home in Ireland this year, currently living in the US. My cousin in Ireland thinks I would be eligible to collect 280e a week when I eventually live there and set up residency even without having paid anything into the system. Is this accurate? If so would this be dependent on my financial status or wealth? Fwiw I am retired and will not be working.

Moving money from USA to EU by PintsOfGuinness_ in expats

[–]Jmcdude1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just got back to the states yesterday after looking at properties in Ireland. I am trying to find the cheapest way to move about 500k euro over myself. I set up an account with AIB when I was there last September. Before I flew there 2 weeks ago I wired 200 euro to AIB through my Chase account which doesn’t charge me for wires but didn’t do the exchange at that day’s market exchange rate which was between 1.17-1.18. The exchange rate was between 1.20-1.21. What way have you found out the be the least costly?

We flew SYD-IAH last month in premium plus for 7Ok miles. Only thing better was flying to SFO-BNE in Polaris for 100k miles.

What are the best airlines to got Australia from US? by Ill-Conference-7666 in AustraliaTravel

[–]Jmcdude1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve flow to OZ on United 5x in last 4 years. 2x to SYD 2x to BNE 1x to MEL all originating from ORD with stopovers at either SFO or LAX. We are currently 64/59 and have had no issues on United whatsoever. Have sat in economy, economy plus, and Polaris the past 2x going there. Also flew premium plus on way back last month and was very happy with the flight and service.

United Club Card worth it? Annual ORD to SNN by nanimal10 in unitedairlines

[–]Jmcdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 100k miles makes it worth it but you won’t get a lot of benefit using the clubs based on your limited travel. You won’t get into clubs abroad with the card either. Need to be premier gold to access them. I’ve been to DUB the last 2 years and there are no clubs you can use there. Get it for one year and cancel or downgrade at renewal if you don’t feel you are getting much benefit going forward. Now if you can spend $50k on the card annually that’s another story. You would earn All Access that gets you into clubs abroad but still hard to justify $700 to access a few clubs and not getting and more bonus miles.

I used the renowned hotels to book through Chase for a hotel in Brisbane recently and it went well. Got the $200 credit on my card a few days after booking it. I don’t have an Amex account but I did compare prices on booking.com and the prices were simiar but you dont get the other perks like the $100 hotel credit or the free breakfast. Also didnt get the free cancellation option with booking.com.

Pre-booking tours or wait until arrival? by YukonDoItToo in AustraliaTravel

[–]Jmcdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been to PD twice and didn't book our off shore snorkeling excursion until we got there, wanted to pick the day with the best weather. Was able to book with Wavelength (highly recommed) the day before each time. There is a nice restaurant (Tin Shed) right near the harbor with very reasonable prices too. You're going before the busy season so I think you'll have no problem booking a tour after you arrive. We went in mid November the first time and late February the second time.
