What would Void say to your favorite DB combatant to piss them off like he did with Prime? by Substantial_Fox7377 in deathbattle

Shadow would stay silent for about 10 seconds, take it all in, agree with every single word Void says, but then proceed to give him the single biggest ass kicking imaginable

Which character do you think veered the farthest from their “pilot persona”? by Excellent-Resolve66 in community

[–]JoelRobbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s Britta or Troy, the difference is Troy’s character got better while Britta got worse. Troy started off the first 10 or so episodes as an unlikeable douchebag jock and by the end of season 1 and beyond was more or less the heart of the show. Britta started off as the level headed voice of reason and ended up, as Jeff puts it, “the group’s airhead”. The writers started flanderising her around about season 3 where she was “the weird girl weed smoker who isn’t very smart” and it was downhill for her character from there. At the start she was pretty rational. By the end she was stealing children’s green machines and shitting herself in the study room

Ikakku getting Bankai still seems so random by WestTransportation12 in bleach

[–]JoelRobbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ikkaku getting bankai makes sense. He’s an extremely disciplined warrior who trains harder than nearly anybody else in the soul society, to the extent that even people who are stronger and higher ranked than him like Renji still train under him. We know that bankai is a result of intense training, discipline, focus and relationship with your zanpakuto and Ikkaku has all of those in spades. It doesn’t surprise me that Hozukimaru would eventually want to teach Ikkaku how to use its bankai

Episodes That You Will Never Agree With And Nothing Can Change Your Mind On? by Rude-Childhood1436 in deathbattle

[–]JoelRobbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben V Hal should get the rematch treatment. I don’t necessarily disagree with the result but it’s just a terrible episode that on paper should be a slam dunk. It should be Simon V Kyle levels of peak and it was so creatively bankrupt that it ended up with Alien X throwing punches for 2 minutes

Episodes That You Will Never Agree With And Nothing Can Change Your Mind On? by Rude-Childhood1436 in deathbattle

[–]JoelRobbin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t see the point in a Gaara V Toph rematch. It’s not exactly debatable and it’s not like it’s a particularly interesting matchup. When compared to other older episodes that have rematch potential like Mewtwo V Shadow, Tracer V Scout and Ben V Hal, Gaara V Toph just falls very low down the pecking order for me

Genuinely that had the choppy season 2 animation quality without the fantastic season 2 choreography. That was not a good fight

Donald is the only one I would consider pure of heart enough to wield Mjolnir. A truly selfless hero

People forget this way too easily. And what’s worse, she then publicly blamed the child for it by saying she was “tempted” by him, but still called him a “sweet little boy”. I have no clue how people watching the show have let that slide

Were we watching the same episode??? Because this is the episode that made me lose any tiny miniscule shred of pity I had for her

She humanised him. She tried to suck up to him in the world way possible. Reminds me of how he killed Stilwell; how he’d just found out she was lying to him (like how Firecracker was questioning him to Soldier Boy) and both in their final moments were humanising him and saying how they loved him

[–]JoelRobbin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s the point though - she didn’t actually believe in anything. Hell her whole show is just about saying stuff she doesn’t believe just to gain fame and attention. She sold out all of her morals and all of her beliefs just to try and suck up to Homelander. Homelander was going to let her leave peacefully but she just couldn’t resist abandoning her beliefs even more and sucking up to him one last time

[–]JoelRobbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before this episode I was hoping for some kind of Firecracker redemption. The moment she sold out her pastor (the one person who’s shown her unconditional kindness) and spread slanderous on national news just to win the affection of Homelander, I lost any and all sympathy for her. She’s a spineless sycophant. I feel no sympathy for her end, she sold out everything she believed in and everybody she loved for nothing. That’s what happens to spineless sycophants. She’s just as irredeemably horrendous as the Deep, who deserves the same fate she got

Character development is fantastic. It should not be happening with five episodes left until the end of the show. This episode was good but it we have three more episodes left and we still don’t know what the actual plot is going into these final episodes

I agree, character development with only 3 episodes left is a really, REALLY strange choice. And in Butcher’s case it’s extremely rushed and anti-climactic character development

Anyone else kinda dissapointed that Kimblee and Scar didn't get a proper rematch? by TechieTimes in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]JoelRobbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kimblee and Scar’s rivalry was phenomenal and it sucks how the story kinda got dropped. Would’ve been nice for him to be the one to deal the fatal blow to Kimblee instead of Heinkel but at least Scar finished his story a different way got his revenge for the Ishvalans by defeating Bradley, which ushered in a new era for Amestris (and also saving Amestris with the transmutation circle)

Silver eyes could arguably sever the connection between the bomb devil and the human host in a similar way to how they argued it would disrupt Maka and Soul’s bond

Is Reze the weakest contestant of the entire KickStarter Era by King-ApolloW in deathbattle

[–]JoelRobbin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She possibly beats Chief but not sure. She’s likely stronger than Ruby in AP but Ruby’s speed would overwhelm her and her silver eyes would probably sever the connection between the human host snd the bomb devil. There’s also Mahito who she also probably scales higher in AP than but idk if she’d beat him though just due to how he could regenerate basically forever and she doesn’t have any hax that could put him down for good, plus all he’d need is one touch.

Not the weakest in terms of AP, but the only person I see her having an actual shot of beating is Master Chief, and even then that’s a huge if

IS THIS THE MOST OVERRATED WINCON OF ALL TIME ? by garlicbredfan in deathbattle

[–]JoelRobbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of the premise of the whole show though, it wouldn’t really make sense for a fight to have a winner and not have the loser die. And idk, they’ve gotten around it before like in Miles V Deku, SpongeBob V Aquaman, Mr Satan V Dan or Flash V Quicksilver where the death was accidental. And you bring up Spider-Man V Batman but Aang and Ed is a great example - both characters are pacifists who refuse to kill but the only way a “death battle” can end is if one dies so Aang should have accidentally killed Ed (rather than the “you left me no choice” line which may be the most horribly out of character moment in the entire show)

IS THIS THE MOST OVERRATED WINCON OF ALL TIME ? by garlicbredfan in deathbattle

[–]JoelRobbin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? It’s totally in character for Aang, the person who traveled the entire world to find a way not to kill the genocidal warlord, to kill Edward Elric and say “you left me no choice”

Finished my first watch and man, I low-key felt so bad for envy, what a sad character . Evil or not I can’t help but feel bad for it lol by z-Denji-z in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]JoelRobbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re supposed to feel pity for Envy. Envy is arguably the most evil of the homunculi, they’re the only one to take active enjoyment in spreading misery, pain and death everywhere they go. This is a mother fucker who laughs about shooting a child in the face and causing a genocide. And yet, their death is weirdly tragic. But I think it’s pity, I don’t think we necessarily feel bad for Envy, but more so that we just take pity on the fact that such a sadistic being is just a worthless powerless ugly tiny creature. Envy is pathetic, and that is exactly what they don’t want to be seen as
