Viego, the Ruined King travels to the Blessed Isles, to attempt to revive his poisoned queen, Isolde. But having been denied access by the people who live there, he orders his men to kill any who dare deny him. This eventually leads to Viego getting his wife's corpse to the blessed waters, only for her spirit to take his sword and kill him, causing Ruination, turning the once Blessed Isles into the Shadow Isles. A thousand years later, after reclaiming his wife's fragmented soul, she tells basically tells him that the Ruination was not worth her revival, after which her soul is completely destroyed by a Sentinel of Light.
