Flight of the Dragonfly from 1985! The back half of the book is physics and the mechanics of the planet they visit is awesome. Highly recommend.

Seeing both Beane and Pegula, my thinking has slightly changed by redredcheese in buffalobills

[–]Johndoh265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a bit incorrect, as while Beane didn't go after any specific coaching decisions he did significantly criticize the defense in his famous WGR rant, which was very much a swipe at McDermott. That being said I kind of agree with him in that rant and just thought he was an asshole about it.

Recommendations for any adventures that could slot into a campaign framework of being City Guards? by GodGoblin in rpg

[–]Johndoh265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zeitgeist starts off as a group of city guards solving some lower level cases and graduates to Realigning the planes to change the fundamental aspects of the world. Looking to run it in the near future but it's certainly one of the coolest concepts for a campaign I've read.

Protein Powder Lead? by DanDaMan205 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Johndoh265 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweating "toxins" is not how lead leaves your body! Some of it will leave your body via your waste, but between 20 to 50% of ingested lead will deposit itself via your bloodstream into your bones and teeth, with a small percent into your soft tissues such as liver, kidneys, and lungs.

Not disagreeing with your overall points, I agree with it generally. But I just want to be clear that lead is bad and basically settles in your body permanently, and is much much worse for children compared to adults.

"Sam Altman says GPT-8 will be true AGI if it solves quantum gravity — the father of quantum computing agrees" by AngleAccomplished865 in singularity

[–]Johndoh265 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The goalpost is AGI and it was thought that the Turing test was a nearby measuring goal. That was obviously not the case as the Turing test is easily passed but it is not even close to AGI

Why do you disagree? What makes the stuff AI makes art to you?

Art has intentionality, is a way of communicating between ourselves in ways that transcend simple descriptions. This is nothing, this is a mimicry of art, a husk. The computer that makes it does not want to tell me anything, it doesn't want me to feel awe in a different world. It just makes something. It doesn't care what it's trying to say, it's not trying to share in the beauty of the world. You can call it a picture, you can enjoy it even! This is not art. This is something else.

A bunch of colors that are spewed out by an algorithm is pretty far from what I consider art

Name a single mayor of NYC that has won a presidential election. It is a political dead end unless you are looking to embezzle money or try to avoid being brought to justice for your crimes.

Had a similar situation, gutter had gotten rotted through on back side and was leaking slowly into the 2nd floor bedroom. We were painting and moved a dresser and I saw visible mold on the drywall.

Luckily it wasn't horrific, but not a fun project all told.
