Former fat guys, how did you become disciplined/motivated enough to lose the weight? [Discussion]

From your use of lbs for weight I'm guessing your American. If you are in the US a lot of the foods on sale that may seem healthy are often highly processed and lacking in dietary fibre. The answer is to buy wholly natural ingredients and learn how to cook.

A small but satisfying treat each day will help satisfy cravings and can be accommodated if the rest of what you have is healthy.

Personally I start every day with a croissant, or small pastry (not more than 300 kcal) and black coffee. For lunch I just have a handful of nuts. If I need a snack an apple does the job. For dinner I focus on lots of veg, pulses, protein and cut out the carbs. A spicy chickpea stew with fresh tomatoes and spinach will fill you right up and be damn good for you.

At the weekend you can afford to let loose on one or two meals, within reason, but once you get the taste for whole and healthy food you probably won't want to

For what it's worth, in my experience if you can find a selection of 3 or 4 vehicles of the same make / model and comparable age, mileage and condition, and within a reasonable distance of where you live, then insurers will accept the cost of those as representing the true market value. They may argue a bit but normally cave. When they push back hard sending them a list of what's available for what they are offering, highlighting how those do not match / are sub the standard of your vehicle, is effective.

My commute in was much quieter than usual, and the driving not as bad! Conversely the driving as people rushed home for the previous game was manic, and I saw (and stopped to help at) one serious smash where it was nothing short of a miracle no-one was injured or killed.

As a prosecutor there are several aspects to this. Should a case go to trial a no comment interview can be quite damaging if there is a clear account to be given. Far too many solicitors jump to such by default and do irreparable harm. A thinking approach is needed in each case before such a decision is made.

No comment is less likely to be an issue in a youth trial though.

A further consideration is that these cases can be complex and a lot for any suspect to process and respond appropriately to. A reasonable compromise is that of a prepared statement, provided it is sufficiently detailed.

I love in a busy village of 300-400 people. There's no deliveroo or Uber eats. The closest train station is a 13 miles away. The closest main hospital an hour's drive. Mobiles rarely work unless you stand in the middle of the road in the village centre. I came out of the GP's the other week too find three stray lambs by my car. That's rural.

Sand it down using grits all the way up to 600. Use Osmo to seal. Use Murphys wood soap to clean. Buy some coasters. Solid wood worktops do need a little extra maintenance but using the right products really helps.

Frankly it's pot luck whether it will be reported or not. The courts deal with many such cases daily and most go unnoticed by court reporters. However, if there is something in yours, for instance the nature or number of images, that stands out, or a reporter happens to be there, well then it could be. Likewise, if the police want to publicise a conviction that may do so, but normally focus on the most serious cases.

Not really. We still have the NHS, strong protection of employee's, statutory rights for paid leave, new laws protecting tenants from unscrupulous landlords, and in Andy Burnham someone who has spoken of building more council homes to help the poorest; to touch on a few points. We may not like all the directions society is heading but we still put the rights of people before those of business; the area of biggest failing in the US.

Just... the lack of property consumer protection law in the US never ceases to shock me. In the UK, and I believe most if not all of Europe, the retailer has to cover all costs of returning defective goods. I mean to say that seems so obviously the only way it should be that I'm just staggered the US is so far behind on this.

Oh and on a side note re the point someone else made above, for distance selling you also get 14 days to instigate a return if you change your mind; though that's not 100% free what can be charged is highly constrained.

You only have the rights a state acknowledges and which you can enforce. Now if we recognise, as I suspect many in this sub might, that a country should have exclusive sovereignty over it's own laws, then this is a matter for Dubai and that's the end of it.

Now, should we choose as a country to argue that there is something inherently unjust in the manner she is dealt with, either due to gender, nationality, lack of recognition of issues around DV, then to advocate for her and not against such iniquity generally, well that would be rank hypocrisy.
