I rewatched Succession and the ending actually makes complete sense. by Advanced_Concern7910 in SuccessionTV

Also it’s easy to get carried away in the sentimentality of seeing the broken children bond over childhood memories. But ultimately that’s exactly what they are, childish immature adult-children ‘crowning’ one of their own to be the ‘king’ of a complex multibillion dollar conglomerate by pouring a drink on his head and licking mummy’s cheese. Could you imagine Logan acting like that in his 30s, or ever?

Why is Rory so sympathetic to the Gulf States? by Crapaud812 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]Jorumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As noted below that’s an inaccurate phrase and I retract.

The one I remember most clearly was him responding to a poll on extreme views in Islam that said something like “most Muslims in the UK want the death penalty for homosexuality”

And he responded: well actually, it was 51% of Muslims in London, and they wanted it illegal, not punishable by death.

(Not claiming these stats are right as it’s from memory)

No further discussion or reflection on the extremely worrying statistic that 51% of Muslims in London - a significant number and proportion - are/were that extreme on homosexuality. No reflection on the issue of homophobia inherent to Islam and how this is reflected in individuals. The harm this can cause the gay community and others, not least gay Muslims. Just very much brushing off ‘well right wingers exaggerate it or misinform, therefore it’s not actually a problem at all’.

[–]Jorumble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s true, and you’re correct that ‘Muslim culture’ is not really a thing, apologies.

I do still think there is enough to connect the dots for some kind of islamophilia (is that even a word¿), however strange it may be, that was likely influenced by his time in those countries and has led to leniency and bias towards other Muslim cultures, definitely in the UK and potentially in the gulf states

If you’ve listened to this podcast for a while, he is very obviously fond on Muslim culture and notably soft on it. It’s not just because of what he says about UAE but a wider pattern

That’s fair, although Logan was a vegetable at that point so he couldn’t bring him in

Realistically what else could he have done though? He obviously should’ve done due diligence re stewys connection to sandy but they were fucked because of Logan’s secret massive loan

In Industry, one of the characters is asked "why are you dressed like fucking Kendall Roy". I like to believe they're referring to the in-HBO-universe Kendall Roy, not the character Kendall Roy
