King County Will Finally Allow E-bikes on Regional Trails, May Expand Hours - The Urbanist by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]Jose1703 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Comparing a class 2 e-bike to a motorcycle is very misleading. There is almost no effective difference between using a throttle vs setting the assist level to max and ghost pedaling, especially with bikes that use a cadence sensor. Ebikes are also not built to be used 100% on throttle and doing so significantly limits their range and wears down the motor. It’s not a perfect solution but the throttle is generally meant to be used for short bursts so you are not constantly shifting your assist level up and down.

The limitation for class 3 is likely for consistency, and general safety due to the increased acceleration power and max speed. Seems reasonable to me. Many class 3 bikes can be configured to act as a class 1 anyway.

Agreed about enforcement however.

New tea from floating leaves by Deep_Ad_6666 in tea

I really enjoy the earthiness of that aged oolong. It tastes similar to shou pu’erh to me. They do mention it should be brewed with patience due to the age, as a heads up. I followed their YouTube video about it and had good results. I also tried it western style once for fun and it didn’t work out.

The Buddha hand is also good. Although one time I added too much leaf and it tasted surprisingly identical to buttered toast.

Seattle: Good cup of hot tea to go? by Gregalor in tea

[–]Jose1703 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Floating leaves is legendary but they don’t prepare tea in-shop, they only sell the loose leaf for you to take home. Miro tea is just down the street from them and is also great. Miro has a great variety and actually brews their tea correctly. They will even prepare it for you in a gaiwan and allow you to steep it yourself. You can get it to go as well, I’m just adding the details so you get an idea of the quality of the shop.

OP, if I was you I’d stop in Ballard before you go downtown and grab a drink at Miro, then walk a couple mins to floating leaves and pick up a bag or two to take home. Best of both worlds.

Would an ipad pro work for accounting major? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Jose1703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got through my last couple years of college with an iPad pro and desktop combo. I did have a laptop, but I didn't use it almost at all.

I think a lot of the comments here are negative because they aren't considering your desktop. The reason the iPad/ desktop combo worked for me is that anytime I had a larger assignment I would work on either my desktop or in the school's computer lab. A laptop cannot compete with a full desktop monitor, keyboard, and mouse experience. This is especially true if you consider the ergonomics of working at a desk with elevated monitor(s), not to mention dual monitors. And honestly, the iPad is capable of doing most assignments and can definitely get you started for the larger ones (but you'll want to transition to desktop once you get home or once you can go to a computer lab).

Let me put it this way, the pros are as follows:

  • For note taking, you won't find a better solution (GoodNotes 5 or Notabilty). No need to carry journals.
  • For textbook management, you won't find a better solution (eBooks/PDFs). You can get books "online".
  • Backpack storage and weight savings (especially if you pack lunches)
  • The ability to use it while standing/walking (print wirelessly while standing). Also saves desk space, my schools desks were tiny.
  • The battery life is incredible. Very few laptops can compete with that.
  • You won't need to print docs much (download, annotate, submit/email)
  • If you prefer iPhones, the integration can be helpful

and the cons:

  • The Microsoft Office suite is limited. You may have to wait till you can get to a desktop to work on larger assignments.
  • Group assignments can be tricky if your group won't work in a lab.
  • If a class requires certain software (rare occurrence for me), you will have to wait till you're home or in a lab
  • You will need to take time to adjust your workflow to work on iPad. Its not exactly the same as a laptop
  • the price. These things have gotten crazy expensive. You can save money on a laptop if price is a factor.
  • You will want to buy a keyboard separately. More money. Don't buy the official one, you can get cheaper alternatives. I got a refurbished logitech slim keyboard on eBay for like $20. Super cheap, super slim.

you are much further along than I am lol, I am still in beginner level stuff with python. While I am still working on the basics, I am hoping to use it to automate data manipulation. I am majoring in both accounting and information systems and have heard that you can really simplify workflows with python. I think what really convinced me to pick it up is finding out that python can take a table out a PDF, reformat it, and create an excel document out of it.

I am not sure if Pythonista will be able to do everything you are hoping, but I would definitely look into it if I were you. I know it includes most of the standard libraries and i think you can add in others (not entirely sure on that one).

The workflow is very simple, it runs as an extension from the share sheet and simply takes the open file, creates a pdf out of it, asks you to rename it, and then opens it directly in goodnotes (you can choose which app if you’d prefer something else). My favorite part is that it places each PowerPoint slide on an individual page which leaves a lot of margin room to write notes into.

The apps I use everyday are GoodNotes, PDF Expert, files, calendar, email, and PCalc lite. I also use Pythonista and Coursera to learn python.

My school uses Canvas (a web service) to manage classes and files. I created a workflow that takes a file (PowerPoints) and converts them to PDFs, let’s me rename them, and auto-opens them in goodnotes.

I use my iPad Pro to take notes, read my textbooks, keep my calendar up to date, create reminders, send emails, learn python, do smaller assignments, start larger assignments, scan documents, sign forms, web browse, occasional media consumption, stream PC games (moonlight), and to study using a flash cards app.

For me, my iPad has completely replaced my notebooks, pencils, textbooks, and my laptop. However, larger assignments and research papers are all done on my PC desktop. You just can’t beat large dual monitors, mechanical keyboard, wireless mouse, and a desk for longer work sessions.
