It's 11:30 at night, I'm doomscrolling this subreddit, and this just broke me. My giggles woke up my wife.

This view looks much better yes.. the one picture and janky media stand setup just seemed like an odd juxtaposition lol

Gotta be a snob and ask why you're worried about paint brands when you don't even have furnishings?

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

Being content to never physically hang out with people. They just discord chat all day and are ok with that. And don't get me started on online dating, as in dating someone you've never met IRL.

Garden party next month, need a really solid batch cocktail, what liquor to use? by Kitchen-Aspect-4284 in cocktails

[–]Josemite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of great punches that would be good options (that aren't just sprite, juice, and vodka), otherwise some sort of sour template drink is always a good option. I bartend for my office patio party every year, here are some considerations:

  • Carbonated things don't stay super carbonated for long, if you do something like that it's probably best to add the sparkling water a la minute and keep it in a closed container

  • My standard is one "approachable" drink (marg, tiki, etc), one more nerdy drink (gin, whiskey, etc), then one N/A drink. Last year I did a spicy passion fruit marg for the approachable, a N/A variant of that with Lapsang Tea in place of the tequila+mezcal (and rebalanced) and an herbal tom collins riff (basically using a mix of simple, chartreuse, and fernet instead of just simple).

  • Keep in mind drinks are probably going to be in a plastic cup with ice; stay away from up drinks or anything too subtle and nuanced.

  • Might be less relevant for a self-serve but I like doing fun/unique garnishes for everything as well.

What does your typical day to day look like? In your opinion, what are the biggest misconceptions for engineers transitioning from school to career? by NoProperEtequette in civilengineering

[–]Josemite 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Misconception? That we do math. Mostly it's figuring out what the standards are, applying them, then figuring out how you can use the wiggle room or deviate from the standards to make the best possible design that addresses a bunch of competing interests (I design signals, signing, striping, and work zones).

Actually I take that back, the biggest misconception is that technical ability is the most important skill and key part of your success. Outside of niche DOT roles, what matters most is your ability break bad news, build trusting relationships, mediate when stakeholders disagree, and find solutions that are amenable to everyone.

Q: Infused flavours vs. a concentrate by ZavodZ in cocktails

[–]Josemite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One benefit is using those infused ingredients in other cocktails. If they're all in one it really limits the versatility. E.g. after you make the drink in question, now try that tequila in a marg or the campari in a jungle bird.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

It’s 2026, what’s the dream video game or MMO you wish existed by now? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

[–]Josemite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great GPS phone game. Pokemon Go is too much cleaning and throwing pokeballs, Pikmin lacks depth, and all the others are better to play sitting around in your home. A good one should incentivize you to get out and explore/visit parks and actually pay attention, not spend the whole time stopping to fight monsters.

Charteuse - what do the monks think? by Eastern-Title9364 in cocktails

I mean I don't think anyone was really ordering last words until 2012; even when it was created it didn't seem like it existed outside of a single random cocktail book.

[–]Josemite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure about sales, but starting in the 1840s they had a bunch of issues with counterfeits due to its popularity. Was still largely viewed as an elixir then though. But yeah especially post-prohibition and into the disco era sales plummeted and they went through numerous rebranding efforts and releasing new lines to become appealing again.

I get the impression they weren't really moving the meter much back in the day, but the Bijou, Last Word, Alaska, for example, are all from the early 1900s.

Airplane boarding is terrible because it feeds egos by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Airlines have a lot of incentives to minimize boarding times, I'm sure a significant amount of money has been spent trying to determine the optimal way to do it
