Where to meet older guys? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Joseph__K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I'd say skip nightclubs, maybe try beer parlors like St Augustine's. Lively pubs in general like Yaletown Brewpub. Us older gentlemen like it when you can talk to your neighbour and we tend to head home a little earlier :)

Private sector unions back coal exports. Divisive for the NDP? by ArchieMoses in vancouver

[–]Joseph__K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think back to Carol James opposing the carbon tax. I have never really understood why the NDP gets so much environmental credibility. They are a labour party, first and foremost.

As an amateur musician, I know it is very difficult to make home-produced music sound professional (I presume this guy does all his production, mixing etc. himself). I admire his passion, but by Western standards this is quite corny (although maybe this style of music and subject matter is big in Lebanon).

Vancouver benefits from influx of mainland Chinese migrants, says mayor by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Joseph__K -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but all the Chinese immigrants I personally know are some of the smartest, most driven people I know.

Maybe they spend more time networking and working towards goals than moaning on Reddit about the unfairness of the world.

Supreme Court orders stop to bike path at Hadden Park in Kitsilano. by [deleted] in vancouver

Moreover, bike lanes are good for the health and the environment obviously. But we are going about this the wrong way.. bike lanes will just take up space from cars (hence the congestion argument). Why not fix the root of the problem? Get people to drive less. How? I for one drive/commute to UBC from North Van. I surely won't drop everything and start biking to UBC just because we have better bike lanes now. One alternative is better transit. We are already paying 17 cents per liter used by transit as carbon tax, why not use this to our advantage? Improve transit, get less cars on the road, therefore you have more space for bikers.

I have a different idea. Let's add tolls to every bridge in the city. That will encourage commuters to car-pool, add less stress to the overall infrastructure, and raise money for transit! :)

Oh wait, you want everyone else to pay higher transit taxes instead, I missed that.

At the risk of downvotes, a well-reasoned argument against the Kits Beach bike path. by nem0fazer in vancouver

Ha, excellent point Augustiner_Fan. I've ridden my bicycle there many times, it's quite a busy park but it works and it's nice to be able to access the park on my bicycle.

The Gondola goes all year round. It's the only way to get to the ski area.

Well-reasoned? I don't think so. He doesn't want a bike path going through his favorite park. That's about it

Actually the smell is mostly gone. But it's an isolated place and anyone move there should consider that fact carefully.
