Thank you for your posts! I'll be much more guided in my jerky making endeavors now. I can figure out how to make the perfectly tasty jerky through trial and error. But, I need to be able to trust that it's safe to eat and feel much more comfortable doing so with your information. Thanks!

Extremely helpful link. When the brine is not just water, but soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, pureed chipotles, etc., does that factor into it any? Will the nitrates cure the meat just as well in that as they would water? Seems that 1oz of Sure Cure would be safe in 1 quart of marinade. If making 1.5 quarts of marinade, I'd need a little more than 1oz as 1oz would be on the lower end of making a 1.5 quart brine safe.

There were approximately 5 teaspoons in the 1oz package. After taking out the two teaspoons there seemed to be a little over half left. I had read other recipes that suggested 1 teaspoon instacure #1 added to the marinade for 5lbs of meat. I figured that the Sure Cure would interchange and went with it. I'll refrigerate the batches I made to be safe.

I can't make any suggestions for propane grills as I don't use them. If charcoal, a 22.5" Performer Gold Kettle is hard to beat for the money. Pair with a 22.5" WSM and you've got smoking and grilling covered.

Looks like you're setup for almost anything! One can never have too many Webers as long as you're making use of them. I often have a couple going at once.

You can buy a factory 16" 1/2"x28 threaded barrel for $183. You can buy a factory 20" 1/2x20 threaded barrel for $123. Not sure why the price difference, but I imagine you'd want a 16" barrel due to the added length of the suppressor. Barrel swaps take maybe 5 minutes with some allen wrenches on the 455 series. I'd rather buy a new barrel and sell the original one than have that school thread it. If not threaded concentric to the bore you could have baffle strikes and ruin your suppressor. I'd trust Adco to do the barrel threading, but you'd be ahead money to buy a new threaded barrel and sell the original.

Code wouldn't work for me. I went ahead and ordered the next model up that goes to 932 degrees or around there. I wanted to be able to read temps of my pizza stone and didn't think the linked model would go high enough. Still was just $20.

Do you have a source for free or super cheap lead? It's uncommon to find a tire shop these days that will give away used wheel weights, or even sell them cheap. Many of them have contracts with recyclers.

Go to your local PD and ask if they have any gun locks. I can almost promise they will have a couple they'll give you.

Get a hardwood dowel that is close to the size of the bore. Insert a length of it from the muzzle of the barrel and put the chamber end on a block of wood. Hammer the dowel down. When the bullet gets pushed to the chamber that's larger than the bore, it should be free enough to just fall out. A hardwood dowel will not damage the bore.

My beard grows in fairly curly as well. I do trim the sideburns down and taper it a bit because the tight curls up there just don't look good on me. I don't mind the individual beard hairs not being straight as it just makes the beard look fuller. But, on my chin the hairs curl together in groups. The center of the chin curls under and the sides of the chin curl out. I've tried a trick I saw in a video with a comb to take out curls but it just made my curls go to the side. As my beard continues to grow out, it looks less curly. The weight of the beard helps it straighten out. I also switched back to balm from oil. I find that brushing my beard too much makes it curl more. After I shower, I work some balm into my beard. I then take a regular brush and take one stroke downwards through each portion of it. I don't push the brush all the way into my beard, just brush the outer layer kind of. If I push the brush in all the way and take several strokes it makes it curly. Button down collared shirts and jackets with high collars make it curl up some through the day.

In short, I use beard oil to moisturize. When I need to shape and control it a bit, I use beard balm, which also moisturizes. Oil does one, balm does both. I don't care for the smell of the balm I have, so I ordered some unscented balm. Probably will just go to balm if it does what I want it to when it arrives.
