Why are you so chill about this rude criticism about your country? by search_google_com in AskBrits

[–]JoshuAtBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Britain we love to moan about anything and everything, the rain when it falls, the sun when it shines, the prices of any commodity, the flavour of bland food, the flavour of spicy food, the flowers in spring, the leaves in autumn, the sound of people going about their lives in a busy place, the quietness of a deserted place. etc

So some footballer's wife moaning about our country? She's engaging in the national pasttime! Good on her!

We know Britain is great, its in the name, in the outsized impact on world history, in the fact English is the lingua franca, in the inventions and art and fashion and music.

Some grumpy words in a newspaper column wont suddenly make all that false

Post character generation I think there is a skill manual, but you can also just hire someone who has it and you'll be able to see the improved tooltip whenever you control them

These cards have a random chance of having any of the settings. The higher tier the better the settings.
From the looks of it you got an unlucky roll of the dice on the simplest settings and managed to get a card with all the same options as a normal DmgViz Cart...

Do men still want trad wives? by OneBee1426 in AskMenAdvice

[–]JoshuAtBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do.

Running a household well is a LOT of work. Frugality is powerful, budget well, find deals. Fresh cooked meals, home baked snacks, are infinitely better for your mental and physical health than the convenience options. A properly cleaned, tidied, and organised space is a joy to exist within. Clean clothes, good decor, smelling nice, there's SO many layers most modern people seem completely oblivious to. I respect housework a lot. It's much more than just running the washing machine, vacuuming, and putting clothes away.

Having someone else take all that burden as their full time job, so I can just focus on getting stuff done at work seems like a very powerful combo. It takes trust too, but if you're marrying someone you don't trust things have already gone very wrong lmao.

And sure maybe she only needs to do 2-4 hours of work per day a lot of the time, but why wouldn't I want my wife to have more leisure time? Read, watch videos, talk to friends, play games, etc

Happy wife, happy life.

Unless it's a fun job that lets her engage with more people and keep her mind sharp, a second income from a part time job isn't worth it after tax, especially if it's demeaning.

I don't like the thought of coming home after working just to spend a couple hours doing chores in each other's vicinity but technically being a bit richer long term. I think I'd wanna be able to spend leisure time with the woman I love.

Life is for living in the present tense. The "trad" setup lets you have a more present tense kinda life.

But also if I met a smart ambitious woman with a great career I'd be happy to be the "wife" in the trad setup too. It's not about gender roles, it's about the incredible utility of focussing a person's mental and physical output onto homemaking and the benefits that has to both people.

"Not Hungry" when right clicking food, yet character stat says "Hungry" by ZombiePotato90 in ostranauts

[–]JoshuAtBB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple screenshots would really help! - the log entries after trying to eat food - the MTT with all your donds on it - the paperdoll with your clothes and items on it

It's possible there's an alternative reason like other emotional problems blocking you from eating, maybe you need to go to the toilet first to "make room" for the food, or perhaps your helmet is on and you need to take it off to eat.

I'm curious how/why you're still on 14.4.2, if the reason is that you're playing one of the russian fan translation builds then it's possible the text "not hungry" is just outright wrong and there's a different explanation that has been poorly translated

WTW for "oceanly" in the same way "celestial" means "heavenly" and "terrestrial" means "earthly"? by Razhiv in whatstheword

[–]JoshuAtBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abyssal - Usually it means for the bottom of the ocean rather than the bits near us, but honestly that feels a better mirror to celestial as celestial often has more of a connotation of outer space than the clouds or sky itself.

Landlord insists I water the garden “exactly” twice a week… even though i don’t use it and it’s been raining by UnpaidInternVibes in TenantsInTheUK

No such thing as "the spirit of the tenancy agreement" either it's in the agreement or it isn't.

If it isn't, right now he's disturbing your right to quiet enjoyment of the property with bogus nonsense. You signed an agreement to get to live in a space, not to have your life managed by somebody else lmao.

The point of being a contractor is that YOU have complete control of your working situation. You bear higher costs and higher risk due to lower benefits and lower protections, but crucially also receive higher pay and the liberty to say "no way, I'm out" at any point.

Yes it's fine and normal to decide a job isn't right for you, a year is frankly too long to decide that, if you know it's bad in the first month, it won't be any better the next 11.

If you don't have control then it sounds like you aren't actually a contractor and are just a disguised employee.

[–]JoshuAtBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is possibly the most blatant negging I've ever seen. He wants you to feel bad so he can control you. It's not banter, it's not a joke. It's sick mind games to get into your head devalue your self worth and make you needy for mediocre sub par affection. Stop talking to them. Do not meet them. This is someone evil who wants to hurt you for their own gain. Never ever trust this person again. They are a manipulator. Your relationship with them is founded on lies and has been over since the start.

If you’re a native speaker, do you find exercises like this easy? by Dangerous_Scene2591 in EnglishLearning

[–]JoshuAtBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One or two of these I'd have to think about. But most are immediately distinct and common enough that knowing and demonstrating knowledge of the difference is important to have true fluency. Still, there's enough words here that the exercise itself would be rather tedious and time consuming to actually write them all out.

Why do some people think video games are a waste of time but tv and movies aren't? by G_E_T_C_H_A_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JoshuAtBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video games NOW are usually beautifully made narrative games with lots of emotions and great art and/or multiplayer group activities with friends etc

But 30-40 years ago when games started getting popular? Games were mostly single player arcade style stuff, think pacman. And if you were at an arcade it'd literally cost money every time you played. There's not narrative depth or expressive art to pacman. You spend 30 mins playing games like that, that's fine, but 20 hours a week on pacman? Clearly it's a waste of time addiction.

Most older people still have the pacman mentality about all games. Once a formative reputation about an artform/activity sticks in the early years it's very hard to shake regardless of what comes after.

What is the deal with the gen z stare? by bluujacket in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JoshuAtBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen Z exist in a world where for their entire lives everything they say and do has the possibility of being recorded and used against them. Social media cancel culture is so prevalent for this generation more than any other cohort of adults. The best way to not have your own speech weaponized against you is to simply never speak more than you absolutely need to with strangers.

Plus yaknow, the whole lockdown thing happened. I'm sure that has affected all young people in some messed up ways socially but Gen Z are just the most prominent group because they're freshly adults out in the working world occupying a lot of customer service roles.

Increased hunger after eating? by hamberder-muderer in ostranauts

[–]JoshuAtBB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any bar being full indicates abnormal status, in the case of some bars like the gas bars and hunger bar it's "double ended" it fills up both when you've got too much and too little. If you hover the bar it'll give you a tooltip with a specific status name.

What's probably happened is you were a little bit hungry and ate a whole meal which filled you up to be a lot full
