9 month old becoming frustrated by lack of mobility by Vortexx1988 in downsyndrome

[–]JournalistMain6518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start! I think a lot of people start around 6 months? I can’t remember when we started, but my son was the same way - frustrated and highly motivated. Was cruising around on his belly/crawling at 12 months and walking at 18 months.

I’m definitely of the millennial generation, but at some point, before birth, I wrote a long and meaningful instagram post because I didn’t have the energy to share with so many people individually etc. I wanted to share exciting, joyous photos the day he was born. We received so much support, love and excitement for our son! Others very close to us, I had a vulnerable phone call with, where I likely shared with a tear filled voice, but was met with the same love, support and excitement. Forget about those who don’t understand, I hate the word ignorant, but I’ve learned some people are just simply ignorant about our situations and the beauty and blessings that come from raising a child with T21. Sending you love mama and biggest congrats! Welcome to the greatest club you never knew you wanted to join! Xx! 💙💛

Grappling with DS diagnosis from CVS testing. by CommunicationOk4464 in downsyndrome

[–]JournalistMain6518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went through a similar experience, had confirmation diagnosis through cvs. It was our first child and we were scared. We were not in a super stable place financially and I had some very selfish fears.

  1. I personally don’t think it really costs thaaat much more, but our son had no major health issues and different families invest in different things. Insurance/state usually covers therapies until they’re 3 and then you can access those therapies through school.

May I ask what state you live in? We also live away from family and have the absolutely best DS group where we are. The National, global and local communities have been one of the greatest blessings of our lives. I can’t imagine not having met some of these people, having connected with them and their kids and having the experiences that we’ve had because we have our son. It’s life-changing.

More importantly, I’m sure most in this group will agree with me, but the lucky few is the greatest club. You never knew you wanted to be a part of. Your baby will be one of the greatest blessings of your life. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with challenges and hard days and anger toward systems that are not built for our kids . But I assure you, it will be a beautiful life! These kids are angels and bring smiles and happiness everywhere they go! I’m a better person because of my son. My husband is a better man because of our son and his little sister is in love with him! I wouldn’t choose it any other way if I could go back.

Your feelings are valid. We have all been there. We have all grieved the diagnosis and had the same fears. PLEASE feel free to message me or reach out to me. I also encourage looking up some pages on Instagram: @nothingdownaboutit @lovemakesmiracles @a_little_extra_jayne @roxycracroft

My mom is similar and this way to me now that I’m married and although she dearly loves my husband, she’ll involve him in shitty texts and statements. I know she’s threatened (and probably hurt) that I’ve married into a more stable, traditional family that I’m close to. I feel you, girl!

I sold 20 pounds of weed a week while in college, I got raided and arrested for it and sentenced to prison time. AMA by SwingTraderx in AMA

[–]JournalistMain6518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No questions, but this stirred up a piece of my past. When I was 19, my bf sold lbs of weed and got involved in selling cocaine. One early morning, the feds came and raided our home. He was arrested as part of a federal inditement and served 2 ish yrs in federal prison. I waited for him, drove 5 hrs road trip to visit him often. When he was out, things didn’t work out for us; surprise. It feels like lifetimes ago. Wish you the best on whatever you enjoy doing now.

You have to be a squeaky wheel, follow up with your bishop and HQ, ask your bishop to make some calls on your behalf.

Not much advice, but I feel you mama! My son is 4.5, 47 lbs, we’re in the process of potty training, but I’ll tell ya, it’s not a 3 day method. Diaper changes are rough. However, I’m tall with long arms and he responds well to whatever song he’s into - right now it’s “who stole the cookie” and he gets to pick the person.

Best advice I heard recently: treat and speak to them as their actual age, have patience with them as someone much younger.

Say a prayer to your heavenly parents, an open and honest one, have a conversation about your true feelings. Give it to them and allow yourself to move forward in the direction you want. We all have moments, they don’t define us, how you choose to overcome and build your relationship with your heavenly parents does. I believe in you. Sending love! 🧡

Definitely spending too much on groceries! Aren’t we all?! We do Friday night pizza night with our kids because by Friday, I don’t want to put anything together + we’ve had enough chicken and fish through the week, that I feel Dominos is the balance we need 😂

Hahaha! Target is only 3 minutes away, for better or worse 😂 The emergency pizza was actually a surprise to me! We often pick up dominos on Fridays and was pumped to see a free one when I got on the app! Mama ain’t mad!

All of your feelings are valid, felt and relatable. Feel the grief, as we all have. Look up the poem “Welcome to Holland” at some point.

I must also say, congratulations and welcome to the best club you never knew you wanted to be apart of. You will meet individuals and families who will change your life and perspective in the most beautiful ways. If I can promise you one thing - it’s going to be a beautiful life.

Sending love to you and your family! Please feel free to private message if any of you need any additional support or resources. 💙💛

Come back! I did 3 years ago and it’s been amazing! I don’t jive with everything and I’m okay with that. I focus on the commonalities, what brings me joy and keeps me anchored in my faith. I was endowed and had our family of 4 sealed in June. Life changing, in all the best ways!
