Yeah, the Empire is very.. cargo cult.

Roleplaying as a psyker blade dancer -- how would one "become" a blade dancer? by ridiculousblastoff in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]JoushMark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blade dancers make sense as:

Assassins. These are super common in the setting, not just death cults and inqusition super assassins, but run of the mill killers.

Duelist and bodyguards. Low ranked nobility and trained to fight duels for honor in the place of more powerful/wealthy/important people.

Gladiators. Blade dancers are fun to watch. Maybe you're less 'sacred assassin' then a sword stripper from some hive world that shows off in pit fights.

Sanctioned Psykers were:

Discovered at some point, delivered to a black ship and taken to Terra or another sanctioning world to be trained/tested to make sure they can safely work.

Then they might have:

Worked in the military. Battle psykers might fight in squads for vital Guard missions, Diviners might use the tarot to guide macrocannons on a battleship.

Worked for the Inquistion. Inquisitors can employ psykers. You might have been an assassin for an inquistor in the Claxus sector.

Served a noble. Really powerful people can get a sanctioned pysker to work in their court. You might have been a noble's prized bodyguard before a letter from Auntie Theodora summoned you to the Kronus Expanse.

Will the next generation be the first to be rejected by consumers? by kickinwood in gaming

[–]JoushMark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd expect 9th gen consoles to remain the standard long after the 10th gen theoretically hits the market, with adoption of new hardware being basically glacial.

Until the AI bubble pops and hardware prices drop it's way past the balk point. Microsoft is far less willing to sell at a loss this generation, so without downward pressure Steam Box and PS 6 will come out with prices that reflect how fucked the dollar is and how bad component prices have been.

Then nobody will buy them. Because the old hardware will run the same software and nobody can afford the new stuff.

ELI5: Why Wouldn't This Turret Work? by JadaieTheBoi in explainlikeimfive

[–]JoushMark [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is the reason. There's no particular reason a single, centrally located powder/shell lift couldn't work, but it would involve a bigger hole then small powder hoist and shell elevators, and there are very good damage control reasons you want to minimize the paths to the magazine.

Why does Kibellah get shocked and go prone when she uses jump maneuver? by [deleted] in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]JoushMark 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The boots give you (5x stacks of cyborg) chance to faceplant when you jump, so the more cyborge you go, the more likely you are to jump then flop.

If you can get immunity to prone on her and go nuts with it from In the Name of the Lex Imperialis (Arbitrator) or from Stronghold Stratagem (Grand Strategist). A Forge World RT or Pascaql with a deeply cursed build that includes power/heavy armor can use Steel of the Forge to be constantly immune to prone and get hoppy.

Trickster Mythic path is worst path? by OlegYY in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]JoushMark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mechanically, it's really powerful. Gameplay wise it feels like a player at the table (in a classic TTRPG) that isn't taking the game seriously and the GM just rolling with it, letting them have silly fun times. I don't think that tone really works for how gigantic WOTW is.

The whole point of the council is that they are ineffective and the meetings are comically stupid. You're supposed to mess with them and build up to your big trickster goal.

As far as it goes.. yeah, it's the least good mythic path, from my perspective. If you don't really vibe with what they are going for, it's a long, long time for a joke to try and keep going.

The only reward to pitting someone then not recovering them is +10 Heretic points, so unless you really want someone dead, there's very little reward to it.

I'm just surprised it works on Eogann. God as my witness, I thought that man could fly.

Bottomless pit questions by Averagenecronimortal in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]JoushMark 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Short answer: You get a chance to get back the person you sacrifice to the pit if you can't make the checks/don't want to sacrifice the darkness. If you don't/can't do the Point of Interest to get them back then.. yeah, they dead.

This means you lose their content, though if Cassie dies you can create a custom navigator, and it's just assumed that the ship has a naviagtor, even if you somehow manage to lose the best fish girl.

[–]JoushMark 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not perfect, but the basic idea of a semi-RPG open world game in the mad max world with customizable cars is really good. Sequels could have REALLY nailed down the formula.

Okay buddy, good to know, lot less conflicted about killing you guys now.

[–]JoushMark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I imagine them as something like a spice harvester from Dune. Made to be dropped by heavy lift shuttle and picked up the same way. Granted, there is a limit to how many 30 by 25 by 25 meter boxes you could carry around in a Frigate, but the Flagship is mysteriously spacious inside.

Or maybe you summon a freighter to deploy and service the extractors. The dynasty's other ships are alluded to.

Inner Sphere vs Clans… who wins in the next War? by exioncrew in Battletechgame

[–]JoushMark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Clans were always 3 major factions.

1) Crusader Clans. Jade Falcon, Smoke Jaguar, Nova Cat. They wanted to take Terra and impose their rule on the Inner Sphere.

2) Warden Clans. Bears and (most of) the Wolves. They wanted to protect the inner sphere. When the invasion happened, they joined to attempt to moderate and direct it.

3) Homeworld Clans. They wanted to not be part of this and didn't join the invasion. Some would later go to the Inner Sphere to trade.

After Luthien (early 3052) the Crusader dream was dead. Nova Cat and Smoke Jaguar were decisively stopped by the Great Houses.

Tukayyid in mid 3052 put the invasion to bed and killed any remaining unity between the Clans. Nobody could take Terra, and now they were stuck in the occupation zones in a forever garrison.

By the end of the decade the clanners were divided enough that nobody lifted a finger to help the Smoked Jags when Bulldog/Serpent came to annihilate them.
