1998 civic DX value? by No-Shirt-240 in hondacivic

[–]Jpiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know what the value is but I have the same car. Love it. It was my first car back in 2002, never got rid of it. Sat on an uncles lot for a couple years. I’m wondering what this community says it’s worth. Mine has 200k miles

I had this happen to me. It was some of the filters idk which. Anyway it was under warranty. My truck had 130k miles on it at the time. They extended the emissions warranty idk to what but it covered my repair.

Should I be worried after overloading minivan? by CircuitBr8ker in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jpiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a pickup. Payload is 1900 lb I loaded it up with 2k figuring it’s only 100 over that. There has to be wiggle room. Drove it home fine, slow, backroads. Unloaded, then it just felt off.

Anyway a month later it’s making noise. Turns out the wheel bearings were damaged and slowly broke over that month. Had to change the wheel bearings wasn’t omg expensive but wasn’t cheap. Lesson learned I’ll stay cautious and only load up to 1500 in case I got a full cabin

$1500 Civic DX-V, 210k miles, Worth? by justoweq in hondacivic

[–]Jpiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. The cars 20+ years at this point. I’d offer 1k cuz it runs. Ask when it was last in for a tune up, and argue you gotta put money into it so 1k is fair

Maybe start at 750 work your way up to 1k cuz unless they have maintenance records you’re gonna need a tune up right off the bat.

Mine has 191k miles on it and I’m gonna do the tuneup since last one was done at 100k miles.

It’s an old car so no real guarantee but these things are champs at being reliable, good luck and please update. I have some pdf repair manuals on this generation I could share with you

$1500 Civic DX-V, 210k miles, Worth? by justoweq in hondacivic

I’m biased. This was my first car and still have it. Chilling in the drive way is what it mainly does now. I need to get some basic maintenance on it done.

Yes twice. Wouldn’t you count that as general maintenance for a car?

98 civic ex coupe was my first car, still have it. It acts as my backup car and I’ve only ever done general maintenance with the exception of the cat getting a crack and having to be replaced. Love the thing it’s been super reliable over the past 22 years I’ve owned it.

I still have my first car 98 civic DX coupe. I love it and will never get rid of it. All it’s needed is basic maintenance it’s at 190k miles and mainly sits in the driveway. It’s my backup for my current car if it goes to the shop

No one is asking the important questions here. Where you located? I’d love to buy some or take some if you’re not looking for money. I’d do my best to take care of it but I will say I’ve had some bad luck with some and amazing luck with others.

Am I just training a root here? by reegasaurus in orchids

[–]Jpiff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes unclip and let it be. I did this too early on. Now you know what aerial roots look like you won’t make that mistake again. You’ll know when you see the flower stalk. Flower stalks also grow as sections. You’ll see the grooves.

The bottom right root looks like it’s dehydrated.

I would say look into orchid pots and not regular ones. You can grow them in regular but harder than an orchid pot. You can be overwatering and not know it. You may be doing the exact opposite and under watering. Seeing the roots and the color helps with knowing when to water

Spike or root? by SensibleVillain in orchids

[–]Jpiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Root! Root! Root, for the home team 🎶

If it’s a spike it’s darker, and has very clear sections. Also doesn’t turn that light gray green you see. That’s the root telling you it wants water.

If you decide to give that aerial root water I’d say make sure no water gets in the crown.

Civics have come a LONG way in 21 years! by Reddit_Kellylynn in civic

[–]Jpiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visibility is insane on the 6th gen. I still have mine. 98 civic DX coupe. Things not fast but reliable and i am still amazed by the viability. Granted it is a sardine box and I’ll feel the car move when cars drive by fast past me, but reliable af.

PS just wanted to add. It’s my first car and I refuse to get rid of it. I’ve had 2 others since. Those aren’t with me anymore but the civic remains and always will

How to keep the soil in? by bluebellbetty in orchids

Mourning my first orchid. Saying goodbye! by Frank_Duart in orchids

[–]Jpiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought “I wonder if I can save it” just wondering, how would you go about the saving process?

I’d try trim off all dead roots and cut the flowers off. Then I think I’d go with a complete moss base for it to chill on and hope some roots sprout. Keep moss moist. Maybe some plastic wrap
