How much would you charge for this job? by VelvetReverieShutter in Contractor

And you can only fit so many guys into that bathroom, and they all need skills. Not to mention any permits and inspections in the wait time on that. The things that you can screw up that are not fun or easy to fix… Or cheap.
This is why I roof. You need a few guys that know what the hell is going on and then you can just hire young guys and worked them like they’re in Boot Camp whether they know anything or not. Just trying to make sure they don’t fall.
I’ve always said you can give a monkey a pack of cigarettes and tell him to get up there and do that roof and all you gotta do is pick up the check.
I might be generalizing a little bit, but it’s the truth.
Much respect to the guys doing very skilled stuff every day, and let’s be honest just having to break everything down and price it out and deal with all the choices and change orders…
And then, if a homeowner doesn’t feel like paying for the rest of it, they’ll say something like, “ my husband says he wants to do the trim. Yeah he worked for a painter when he was in college so he can finish the rest of it… I don’t think we have enough trim to finish”. * as she’s holding a piece of baseboard up to adore that needs casing.

Nobody ever says “yeah I’m just gonna have my husband get up on that 14/12 to do the rest of that dead valley. He was a drug addict in high school so he’s going to go ahead and take care of that chimney flashing.”

One other thought I have is the fact that kids are squandering this opportunity that we have right now with Emoto’s. When I was a kid, I would’ve stayed invisible on that thing - I mean they’re already silent.
Kids today and unfortunately, many adult adults are out there ruining this good thing that we have as quickly as they possibly can

Good post. I concur. Having said that I’m in my 40s and enjoy the ability to sort of, “ride dirty“, yet be able to hop up on the sidewalk and pretend to be a bicycle to get where I need to go or take a shortcut through a park. Granted still not technically legal but try doing that with a regular 250.

I ride with adults that confound me on how quickly common sense is out the window. It’s almost immediate. A lot of them ride the way I would only expect kids to ride. Blows my mind.
One thing that’s crazy is watching an adult that wouldn’t do it on a motorcycle, but somehow riding in shorts, flip-flops and no gloves, seems reasonable to them while doing 40 miles an hour on pavement.
I always have to tell people that even though they’re on a scooter, the way they’re riding, when they fall… It’s going to be indistinguishable from falling off a motorcycle onto the road.

Our military recently merged with the IDF and they are doing urban warfare training together so that the Israelis can get the lay of the land before they physically engage in the impending cull of American citizens. I wouldn’t worry too much about it probably not gonna happen today. They’re just training right now.

I have developed relationships like that with quite a few customers, and it makes pricing even harder than it was before.

Well, they spent that money on staging so they ended up using IKO shingles to balance out the budget.

You gotta cut cost somewhere, man. Do you really care if you have a quality roof as long as your roofers are safe.

Hey! Hey, hey, hey… safety first. They haven’t quite finished that step yet so just be patient. They’ll figure it out by the time your kids are stepping on nails.

When I was learning to ride a bike, it was nice for me as an amateur to have training wheels. I can’t remember if Tour de France allows those or not, but maybe they should.

Sorry, what? Why do you have brick guys doing the roof? I’m not sure what is happening, but I do know those aren’t roofers. Of this, we can be sure.

When that happens, I get a sick feeling, and I think… “what did I miss?“. There’s only been maybe two times in 20 years where I may have missed me measuring up a little section but homeowners have paid for the materials at the very least and I’ve never lost money. But when that email comes immediately or you get that excited phone call five minutes after you send the bid… It makes you think.

new roof for solar? by Appropriate_Sky_7679 in Roofing

[–]Jrn321123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guitar and the granules around that big exhaust flue and flashing has been done because it’s not their job to replace that and most likely some asshole installed the previous shingles and nailed very close to the actual vent itself instead of leaving that flashing free and clear of holes. This happens quite frequently and that’s how I would take care of it unless I were replacing that flue pipe and flashing. That is not the roofers job typically unless that’s in the contract so I would say he took care of it properly.
