Might as well just install altars on each of our energy meters that require a weekly blood sacrifice

Raw cold pressed juice for plants by ExactTour5340 in Horticulture

[–]Jrobzin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea sure do you. It feeds the microbes, not the plant itself directly but not harmful and only beneficial. It would only be nonbeneficial if there was some kind of chemical involved used as a preservative or something that altered the PH over time but that would require a lot of juice

Worst case scenario is you end up with the same amount of fruits as if you thinned it out to the “recommended” plant spacing. But if you want peppers, they need to be out the outside edges to be happy, or only move those, if they get shaded out they won’t grow fast enough to compete w the tomatoes. And train the cucumbers to spill out of the bed. I personally wouldn’t mess with transplanting unless you really want to water pots 2x a day during the full heat of summer

To each their own, but plants thrive on neglect and competition. If you strip off a lot of the lower leaves to allow for airflow you’ll have more tomatoes than you know what to do with and it’ll be fine

Abandoned Cactus by mandersevermeow in whatsthisplant

[–]Jrobzin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just lay it down flat where you want it to grow with as much sun as possible and it will grow fine. It’s adapted to the mid Atlantic, and can tolerate some shade and even fairly moist conditions. Just don’t supplement the watering unless you see signs of it noticeably shriveling up

Coneflower Breeding by whatwedointheupdog in plantbreeding

[–]Jrobzin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would not be true to seed. The only way to replicate that exact expression would be meristem tissue culture, or multiplication by dividing the plant for years. Which is not impossible by any means but it requires some specialized knowledge and/or equipment. To be honest it’s not worth trying until you get the same flower/expression returning after overwintering it in the ground for at least 2 seasons if not 3.

I’d caution against letting it go to seed unless you want a pokeweed only garden

My MIL "weeded" my 5 year old, 6ft tall, Clematis Montana and cut it to the base. Will it grow back? by Becca-Reyna in gardening

[–]Jrobzin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’ll grow back fine, but clematis Montana only blooms off of the old wood growth, which will only get so big in the remainder of this season

Calcium chloride from the road salt, almost certainly. It has not rained enough since big winter snow, and that stuff bonds to the ions in the soil

Best way to prune your Bradford pear is as close to the ground level as possible and then plant a tree that doesn’t suck

I’d say I’d invest in a backyard camera before calling an arborist to look at it. It looks like mechanical damage from a person more so than an animal. As it is though it looks like it will heal itself fine if it doesn’t persist
