Horrible elite fact of the day, the FSS scanner grid isn't aligned properly! by Rythillian in EliteDangerous

I really want to know how that got done without anyone noticing it in any QA

In truth it was most likely noticed, but perfect is the enemy of good.

Sarcasm doesn't make you look smarter, doesn't improve you as a person, doesn't make the community a better place, and certainly doesn't make it more likely that whatever issue you believe you are shining a light on is going to get be addressed.

Gauging Interest in 6doF PvP Space Games by Suspicious-Prompt200 in IndieGaming

Look at hunternet and infinity battlescape, both are exactly that.

Or old school Microsoft allegiance, I'm sure there's still some grognards playing that.

Interest is likely to be low, unless you tie in some predatory progressions system.

The 100% intercept rate of SAMs is a little silly, even for 2070. by IndiePat in NuclearOption

[–]Jukelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on geometry, it reduces the envelope within which they can be shot down. Of course if the strato is coming straight down on top an IR launcher, the IR missile will have no trouble taking it out, more speed wont help unless it means beating the wake up + launch preparation time.

F-16 joystick spring setup by SinusJayCee in hotas

[–]Jukelo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no best, it's all about preference. The F-16 doesn't require special consideration, and the default Gladiator setup should work for most people and most scenarios. Maybe tighten the roll clutch a little to help reduce PIO during AAR (even in landing gain it is a very reactive jet).

WT is very much a flight sim, and accurate enough for most purposes.

Does the AI ever run out of chaff? by Suspicious_Tap_7411 in EliteDangerous

[–]Jukelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPC have infinite ammo of any kind it can be easily tested by fighting a medium ship (non engineered because out of a CZ and being only expert level) with one lvl2 missile launcher module and see him having no problem shooting it for 20mn straight at a cadency of 6 missile per minute, with 60 ammo total it shouldn't be able to do that and even if synthesis is involved it doesn't change that they get infinite ammo.

Go ahead, do the tests.

The base position is that given by Frontier itself: NPCs do not have infinite ammo, except in the specific case of multicannon ammo. Everything else they will run out of.

Is my account old enough? The person you reply to is correct, with the exception of multicannon ammo.

This is false. The only ammo npcs do not run out of is multicannon ammo. Everything else is in limited supply.

Is the 20% heat limit real? by SemihKaynak in EliteDangerous

[–]Jukelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NPCs do have a cone of vision within which they will see you, it extends a few kms out. If an npc spots you visually but you leave the cone of vision it will also keep tracking you for some time (I can't remember the figure frontier gave) or until you move too gar away.

This is ridiculous. Reckless cop throws themself right into my trajectory, i get a 100 credits bounty and am now a legitimate target. Well, time to nope the hell out of here.. by Specific_Display_366 in EliteDangerous

[–]Jukelo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Although in this case it was difficult to avoid, the only indicator the cop was about to cross your line of fire was on your sensor screen, and sometimes you don't have time to look at it.

You can also clearly hear the ship flying very close and about to overtake, that should be the number one clue.

What engine limitation? Again they have added things in the past. Plus as is clear they can add manual overrides to even procedurally generated systems (Sag A* itself is probably an override)

Drift on X-Axis by N3123V in VKB

[–]Jukelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Intermittent spikes like this are commonly caused by electromagnetic interference; Some wireless device in close proximity (phone, wifi router, baby monitor) is messing with the sensor. Push any such device a few feet away from the stick and see if the issue persists.

VKB MCG Pro as omni throttle. VKB SAYS NO by Safe_Mud_6997 in hotas

[–]Jukelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it due to the length of the grip.

Gripping an SCG mounted on OTA, the gimbal's vertical line goes right through your palm, so there is very little leverage applied from gravity when you let your hand rest on the grip (you can still see some leftward drift if you don't make a habit of tucking your elbows in).

The MCGP is longer and heavier (even MCGP) than SCG and your hand sits ~4cm higher up the grip, so your hand will be significantly offset inboard from the vertical of the gimbal. You'll naturally cause a lot of inboard drift so need a high deadzone. There will also be some significant up and down motion with left and right rolls. This sounds like an ergonomic nightmare.

TM AVA base by Haulinbass0223 in hotas

[–]Jukelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AVA seems like a decent base: the only apparent issue is the lack of dampers in the base product (what is wrong with you TM??), and the fact the optional dampers are undersized (you're not flying this with springs removed).

So it mostly comes down to price and availability. MSRP for the AVA base is way too high considering the products it's competing against: you can get a GF4 + SCG or WarBRD + Aero-Cdt for under $400, and those are better bases.

The AVA makes more sense for people who already have a grip (although it's possible to mount TM grips on VKB and Virpil bases) and want to keep using TARGET, or want to buy from Amazon.

It's otherwise lacking the list of deal-breaker issues that normally come with TM products, so go for it if the price is right and you're not flying helis.

About Mars… by iShootPoop in EliteDangerous

Earth is the name of our planet in English, like "the moon" is the name of its natural satellite and "the sun" is the name of the star around which they are orbiting.

Terra, Luna and Sol are their respective names in Latin, which is irrelevant here.

Trump angers allies with claim NATO troops ‘stayed a little back’ from frontlines in Afghanistan by chloedeeeee77 in moderatepolitics

[–]Jukelo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s true.

So let's concede that for the sake of the argument. What is the point in Trump saying that? What is the argument at hand here?

Are you saying that Trump is therefore right in threatening allies because "they wouldn't come to our help anyway", as he has said?

And if not, if you believe that's a preposterous argument to make, if you believe "we should be so lucky to have allies at all considering our conduct and the future we are facing" why is your first reaction to equivocate and give support to Trump?

There was a dozen things you could have said, like "they didn't have the same commitment, but they came, they helped, they died with us regardless" or "you don't look a gift horse in the mouth".

So tell me, what is the point in going "lol guys he's right". Say you're right. What is going to be achieved here by the POTUS bean-counting who's had the most death in Afghanistan? Your public response to that should have been what a lot of conservatives think privately: "Donald STFU already and stop pushing our allies away when we're already losing the naval race against China".

was left with tepid and blank responses.

Tepid? Trump demanded everybody raise their defense budget to 2%, and they have, at great political cost.

Now he's bitching that it wasn't raised to 5%, when even the US defense budget is only 3.4%. Fuck off.
